The Napishtim-era Ys games are so freaking good

The 10-year stream anniversary is officially over, but as expected, I have unfinished business from Day 7 (Friday), with a Ys VI playthrough to finish. I think I ought to be able to wrap it up tonight...

Coachella is trying to wipe all of the footage of The Strokes protest set so I’m gonna post it here. The last images on the screen made me cry.
Unexpectedly got through _two_ of the four Quake maps/paks I had planned for today earlier, so we should have no problem getting through the remaining too tonight.

Today marks the 9th and final day of the 10-year stream anniversary special, and I'm spending it revisiting some notable Quake maps I played in 2021.

We've reached the final weekend of the 10-year streaming anniversary special, which features more Quake. Today it's Quake II's turn - the original (using Yamagi), not the remaster.

I would advise against playing Ys VI for 9 hours in one day and trying to voice the dialogue aloud the whole way when your pace means that Dogi and Agares arrive at hour 8 ow
Day 7 of the 10-year streaming anniversary special is Ys day. I've turned to Oath in Felghana on prior occasions; this time I'm replaying Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim, the first game on the same engine.

Stream coming up as soon as I manage to reconfigure the controls for the game I'm playing today, which is weird since I don't recall this being an issue last year...
This is the single funniest thing I have ever seen Bluesky staff do.
It's Shmup Book Club night during the week of the 10th anniversary stream special, which means some Blast Wind and maybe some revisits?

Nice to see this site functioning long enough for me to let everyone know it's back to the Bloodlines Grind.
Practice and attempts for the ever elusive 28:3x.

It's shmup day, which means that day 6 of the 10-year stream anniversary special revolves around top-down shooters and shmups. This afternoon I'm focusing on various Jaleco games, and tonight will have a regular installment of the Shmup Book Club.

If you've seen me play Next Fest demos, you've probably seen me grimace when I see Open Dyslexic offered as the only alternative font choice. This article provides a decent write-up as to why.

Fuck allllllllllll the way off.
hey fuck Panic and fuck the Playdate, they're allowing AI generated code in their games.
what's funny is they forbid other AI generated stuff like art and text (good!), but apparently code is A-OK for people to steal.

Finished Mirrortroid 100% in under 2.5 hours; time now for UpTroidDown, which I expect to be a bit more troublesome, although it may very well be _less_ confusing.

I'm spending day 5 of the 10-Year Anniversary Special reflecting on Super Metroid.
I mean that literally. I'm playing two romhacks that flip the game along one axis: Mirrortroid and UpTroidDown. Hoping to at least complete the former this afternoon.

Stream coming up as soon as I sort out a new mysterious technical difficulty I've never encountered before, where OBS refuses to see _both_ of my video capture windows at once...
Finished Shovel of Hope within 3 hours earlier today; hoping to do the same with Specter of Torment tonight.

Day 4 of the 10-year streaming anniversary event is Shovel Knight day! Playing Shovel of Hope this afternoon and Specter of Torment later tonight, my two favorite campaigns, both of which I've speedrun years ago, not that I remember any of the tech anymore lol

Weather forecast for the week showing temperatures already crossing 80F before noon on Tuesday. Subsequent days are predicted to also get close to 80 (I expect they'll actually cross it as well, Weather Underground's data has a reputation for underestimating here)
okay but my 10th anniversary streaming special wasn't expected to be a _summer_ vacation, it's freaking mid-April, we've had blizzards within a week of this time of year here
Each of today's first two games took longer than I expected; finally getting to the final game of the night, Wizordum!

Day 3 of the 10th Anniversary Special features indie games that I consider to be the best I've played in their respective genres.
For the afternoon segment, we're revisiting Assault Android Cactus and Celeste.

Finished Quake E1-E3 earlier; finishing up the original game with E4 and the end map, and then running through Dimension of the Past as a bonus since I probably have time for it tonight.

It's day 2 of the 10-Year Streaming Anniversary Special, with a full playthrough of Quake a couple of months ahead of its 30th anniversary.

Twitter post of Slava Cherk happily posting his own games art that's been put through an AI image generator to make it simpsons themed while another user named Javi Lopez is praising him for doing so while calling for people to embrace Gen AI
Slava Cherk claiming ChatGPT's image generation is fun while posting a screenshot of his prompts to generate images based on his game stuido "Lazy bear games"
Slava cherk asking for technical help with AI code generation from cursor_AI
Co-founder of Graveyard Keeper dev Lazy Bear Games regularly posts AI art & asks for help with AI gen code
Going as far as feeding his own games art into the slop machine
The game itself is from 2018 so it predates the stuff, but they announced a sequel & I expect it to be full of AI-gen slop
Time for part 2 of day 1 of the 10-year stream anniversary event, featuring a sampling of GZDoom/UZDoom-based indie games! Relentless Frontier to start, then Selaco, then Supplice if I've got enough time.
