Our circulation is up 17% from last year! Kids are reading more due to our cell phone ban. It's wonderful!

That’s a shame. I enjoyed the first book so much and I’ve been hesitant to read this because I don’t know how it could enhance the story. This is helpful, thanks!
Oh no! That’s the hardest. Feeling for you and the kiddo.
I know our district librarian is dismayed by the price increases and she's actively looking at alternatives. Follett is alienating a lot of customers.
Q5. Escape from Lemoncello’s Library, or Inheritance Games. #TLSkyChat
Q1. Trouble, chess and giant Uno. I have dozens of games but these are the most popular this year. #TLSkyChat
Thanks! Have a wonderful unboxing day!
Yay!!! So much fun will be happening in your library! What kind of sticker printer did you choose?
In today’s edition of fresh horrors, the inexplicable firing of Carla Hayden, an incredible librarian and public servant.
Ms. Hayden, we stand with you. #skybrarians
That is so awesome! Your staff and students will love it!
This is awesome! Where did you find it?
Student: You have shrinky dinks this month?! I failed at them in art class.
Me: Well, you can't fail at shrinky dinks in the library!
Student: That's right, you can't fail in the library! I can't wait to do shrinky dinks.
Yay, library win! Also, so sad a teacher failed a kid for shrinky dinks.
I read this and enjoyed it, but it's typical of Anne Tyler's books, which are often more a character study than plot-driven novels.
Exactly! Publishers may not care but high school students definitely care about page length. Longer books = fewer readers. I've stopped buying fiction over 400 pgs long for my HS library unless it's super popular because my students don't read them. I'm weeding & most bks on the list are long.
The dismantling of IMLS will have major impacts on the library services provided to students in schools and patrons who access their public libraries
If you value your library, you must speak out & contact congress
Yes! I’m struggling with it too. I used to teach the easy-bib add-on, then Google Docs discontinued it and made Google Citations and it hasn’t worked well for months. *sob*
Yes! My constant mantra when weeding: We are not archivists, we are not archivists, we are not archivists...
I so loved this book!
That's awesome!
That's so rough, Kelly. My heart goes out to you and your husband. My sister-in-law had colon cancer a few years ago at age 40, and they only caught it because the doctor was being super proactive (she had no symptoms). 45 is still too old for first screenings for many people.
YES! It's so so frustrating. Grrrr....
6 minutes until the ALA Youth Media Awards, the only awards I look forward to all year. So exciting! And a reminder there are so many excellent and enjoyable books that don’t win book awards and kids (and adults) should be able to read widely for pleasure.
I hope you have a speedy and easy recovery!
Very worrying that a city the size of Salem could lose its public library?!
Absolutely! Librarians are the best at sharing expertise and ideas and supporting each other!
I'm gradually working my way through these enlightening and helpful podcasts. Thank you for this fantastic service, @slupodcast.bsky.social!
Thank you! These are great ideas!
Some of my HS students are struggling to finish choice books. Do you have any lesson ideas for teaching HS students about reading stamina & book selection? I do Book Speed Dating & talk about genres, vocab, interests but I need more explicit instruction and I'm hoping for some tips & ideas. Thanks!
This is a powerful thread about how to focus on joy when times are dark, without living in denial…
