Sadly, we were not invited to participate. As civil servants who are direct stakeholders (and as a network who helped support the drafting of the EqA2010), this is very disappointing.

Anti-trans discrimination and the Explanatory Notes to the Equality Act Can a group counselling session simply kick out any trans women, because the organisers think the cis women would not want them there? Having lost on the meaning of the Equality Act, the anti-trans…

“Explanatory notes are written by civil servants.”

We would like to clarify that nobody on the a:gender Executive Committee was involved in the writing of these notes.

1/🧵 I welcome the Equality Minister’s timely remarks on the single-sex service exceptions. It confirms what revisionists vilified as “Stonewall law” is really just the law of the UK.

Inclusion is the default position, but it’s not mandatory in all situations.

Well we should have known it was you! We’ve gained around 80 new followers today, so thank you. We can stop scouring social media and relax now! 😅😂

Obviously we don’t discuss our colleagues on social media but it’s lovely to hear you think we’re doing good work. We can be a bit quiet on here, but behind the scenes we’re working very hard to support our members and the wider trans & intersex community 🫡

A big hello to all our new followers and thanks for following us, but where on earth are you all coming from?! Are we in the newspapers again? 😂

Developing harmonised standards for sex and gender identity We are launching a new phase of work towards developing harmonised standards for sex and gender identity data collection. Here Emma Rourke reflects on our work so far, the best practice approach we wi

We will be asking our colleagues at ONS to take account of our views on this important issue.

It’s possible they could have viewed our recommendation for sex and gender monitoring questions, available on our website here:

Hi 👋🏼
If you’re new to Bluesky and wish to mute or block accounts that are transphobic, we’ve found some blocklists that you can subscribe to:

The absolute best thing about this, of course, is that it continues to be false. There are no such rights. Never have been. There's a right *not to be discriminated against because of your sex*, but it's the SAME right that applies to other people for other reasons.

While well-intentioned and useful for some, I don’t think blocklists will stop the flow of new accounts created specifically to harass trans people. But I think some other things cis allies can do is uplift and include trans users & combat hateful replies with supportive ones

This could have easily instigated a(nother) pile-on for us. Unfortunately for this individual, we knew his identity, and once he realised this, he deleted his entire account.

This is becoming a real issue. One member of a ‘gender-critical’ organisation called us “noncey” for sharing a tweet from our colleagues at the Department for Education, from his anonymous account.

It doesn’t matter to trans and intersex people if the colleagues advocating for such policies understand themselves to be “gender critical” vs “transphobic”, because if they’re successful, the outcome for their trans and intersex colleagues is the same.

This is a great point. We have “gender critical” colleagues who have *on record* stated that they advocate for workplace policies that would not allow people to enter toilets based on their “identity” (gender), but that’s *exactly* what transphobic colleagues would also do.

We probably shouldn’t ask to be on this list (as civil servants we can engage in advocacy but not activism) but we’re definitely giving everyone on this list a follow! Thank you @katymontgomerie.com
