I'd highly recommend that the "this is not who we are" crowd check out the last chapter of "Mariners, Renegades and Castaways" by C.L.R. James in which he recounts his detention at and eventual deportation from Ellis Island in the 1950s.

Might have broken the Modern kid's brains, but I've never had more students participate in a discussion than with "On Bullshit". Highly recommend.
Tomorrow should be another fun day of teaching. Spinoza's proof for the existence of God in Modern and bullshit in Intro.
