The economics of modern game development make it so hard for any studio to be like “here is our game, it’s the first part of a trilogy so don’t expect closure to anything” nowadays, always very cool when done well

This is definitely scratching the same itch Trails scratches with intentional multi-game storytelling stuff

it’s so funny how many cutscenes in .hack GU end with the main guy going “ah well. better log out and check my email” and then you as the player have to log out of the fake MMO and go to a fake desktop OS and read fake emails to continue the game
