An interesting thing about nu metal and other popular heavy music at the turn of the century is how much of it was very vocally about being disgusted with the music industry they were participating in
Was just on Twitter and it was a bunch of Trumpy gen x and boomer guys talking about New York at Christmas time
My totally unfounded theory is that these videos really took off during the pandemic when restaurants that were difficult to get into or didn’t offer takeout were suddenly more accessible and it kind of fueled the whole trend and the aesthetic stuck. I completely made this up but I like it.
