Before your commute may not work as the engine does have to be warm from recently driving to get an accurate read on transmission fluid- but yeah! I wish you luck!

After you drive it next, while the engine is still warm and the car is parked on level ground, check that fluid the same way you’d check oil. Wipe off the dipstick and reinsert it to see if it is low. It may need to be topped up and it could potentially even solve the issue at least temporarily. :)

Idk if this is helpful at all but it may be a good idea to check the transmission fluid level yourself next time you drive it, while you’re waiting to have it diagnosed to avoid catastrophic failure. There should be a yellow handled dipstick to the right of the engine usually labelled trans fluid-

Engine temp sensor only measures the temperature of your coolant btw. Other things can overheat and get damage without your coolant overheating. :)

I’d recommend checking fault codes with an OBD tool if you have one / take it to a shop to be diagnosed sooner than later or you may end up with a much more expensive issue. (Transmission replacement) reduce or stop mileage if you can and be easy on the throttle if you have to drive. Good luck :/
