GPs unable to prescribe GLP-1s to patients who need to reduce BMI for lifesaving surgery GPs are unable to prescribe GLP-1 weight-loss medications to patients whose BMI is preventing them accessing life-saving treatments.

If you need to lose weight to access surgery for serious conditions, a weight loss jab could be the answer. But GPs are unable to prescribe, even when there is a clear clinical need. I report with @allieanderson.bsky.social www.pulsetoday.co.uk/news/clinica...

GPs told they cannot prescribe Mounjaro as several ICBs fail to finalise service in time GP in many parts of England are having explain to eligible patients that tirzepatide (Mounjaro) cannot be prescribed in primary care yet.

My colleague @annacolivicchi.bsky.social found many areas not allowing GPs to prescribe Mounjaro yet as services not in place. We've also heard some services are running but with stricter eligibility than NICE set out for Y1. GPs what's happening in your area? www.pulsetoday.co.uk/news/clinica...

Great speaking to Maya Dhillon and the team at @pulsetoday.bsky.social for their podcast this week.

We cover all things GP workforce, including the Government's recent announcement of 1,500 extra GPs coming in via ARRS.

What does this number really mean?
