Trump’s Revenge on Public Health The attacks on HIV research are just the beginning of unraveling decades of progress.

The Trump administration has cut funding and programs for HIV research, treatment, and prevention so deeply that “we’re watching the field burn to the ground,” one researcher told Katherine J. Wu.

The fed administration did away with COVID-related grants because we are past COVID and the worst of the pandemic.

People are still getting COVID. That $ was strengthening the very health departments actively working to monitor and mitigate outbreaks like these. Absurd basis for taking away the $.

We at @nysdoh.bsky.social are continuing to evaluate and find ways to mitigate the impacts of these cuts to critical COVID-related public health funding. While these cuts hurt and their impacts will be deeply felt by all, good public health work must prevail.

Chart: Positive flu tests

With some help from masks, social distancing and fewer crowded gatherings, we beat the flu — but just for a season.

Source: C.D.C. Four-week rolling average of positivity rates from approximately 300 clinical laboratories across the U.S.

At the start of COVID, we all learned how to beat airborne viruses like the flu: by wearing masks and staying home when we are sick. It's a real shame we haven't translated those important lessons into long-term behavioral change.

The first measles death in the US in a decade -- the tragic, preventable death of a child whose parents chose not to protect them with vaccination -- should spark an immediate nation-wide campaign to ensure all children are protected against preventable diseases. Anything less is unconscionable.

Texas measles outbreak update: 124 cases, 18 hospitalized, & now the first death of a child, who was not vaccinated.

Tragic, preventable, & a direct consequence of the deadly lies spread by anti-vaxx grifters, one of whom is now the most powerful health official in the US.

I am absolutely heartbroken that in 2025 a child in TX died from an entirely preventable disease, the first measles death in a decade. Immunization is safe, backed by science, and really the best thing we can do for our loved ones.
