Bring back *everyone* who was sent from the U.S. to CECOT in El Salvador. *No one* should be sent there. ALL their rights were violated. ALL of them should come home.

i miss the early internet. people were like “you gotta see this dude. this cat sure is long.” and they were right. it was really long. it never shoulda gotten any more complicated than that.

One consequence of tolerating pseudoscience is that people die when its legitimatization becomes baked into our culture, health care systems, and institutions.

Be kind to a someone today. Everyone is walking around scared. Some are right on the edge and others push it to their unconscious but no one is immune. This plane has all the makings of hell but it can be the opposite when we connect with each other

One by one, every Dem should heckle like Green and be proudly thrown out by him.

Not sure why all these Dems showed up tbh. They should have followed @aoc.bsky.social's lead and stayed away.

I think most people are intuitively aware of this but something like the official White House account posting an “ASMR” video of shackled immigrants is not just cruel for its own sake, it’s intentional envelope-pushing to ramp up to desensitization over inhumane detention, camps, and deaths

i think people who complain about the language police are, by and large, just cowards. say whatever you want! no one is going to stop you. but people may judge you or even, if you say the wrong thing in front of the wrong person, pop you in the mouth. but that’s life!

of course! totally agree, it really makes me rethink a lot of things, but I think it’s good to not take things at face value - even things we learn in school can be wrong, like how residential schools weren’t part of the curriculum for a long time. always appreciate a non-combative dialogue!

yeah it sounds like a lot of it is still disputed - the eye witness accounts in the Death Toll section all say there was no evidence of anything happening in the square itself, just outside of it. hard to say what happened with so little info, but important to watch for propaganda from both sides

sorry for derailing though! just thought these were interesting reads that challenged what I thought I knew as facts - trying to have a bit of healthy skepticism and avoid falling for propaganda myself :)

personally I think the first article was a bit generous, but I just think it’s important to see that we get fed propaganda as well, not just china. interesting to see people talking to Chinese people on rednote and learning that a lot of what we know about China isn’t true!

the propaganda is the exaggeration of some facts, and omission of others. calling it a massacre is the misleading part - not saying china did nothing wrong, but what we are told isn’t the whole truth. here is a better link with some more info and sources - worldaffairs.blog/2019/06/02/t...

Fact check: Was China's Tiananmen massacre a US-led myth? – DW – 06/08/2024 A viral post on X claims the Tiananmen massacre was a 'myth' pushed by foreign influence. DW explains why this post is misleading.

I just learned this myself, but the whole Tiananmen massacre myth actually comes from western propaganda - we're fed a lot of propaganda about China that misleads us on what actually happened www.dw.com/en/fact-chec...

Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

Don't assume maximalist outcomes for the Trump administration. That's a form of psychological surrender. We should attempt to exploit every stumble, failure, and misstep, and there will be stumbles, failures, and missteps.

I like things science has done to save millions and millions of lives…

Vaccines.
Clean water.
Sanitation.
Pasteurization.
Fluoride.

Next up? Clean air, a stable climate, healthy watersheds, and thriving ecosystems.

Excerpt from Timothy Snyder's "On Tyranny:"

"1. Do not obey in advance."

"Most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. In times like these, individuals think ahead about what a more repressive government will want, and then offer themselves without being asked. A citizen who adapts in this way is teaching power what it can do."

A round, light brown tablet made of clay with three lines of cuneiform scripts. Two rulings, or traced straight lines, enclose the writing. The photo also shows the sides of the tablet, including a few damaged parts.

May as well dive right in.

Did you know that dogs in ancient Mesopotamia also refused to drop the ball?

According to a Sumerian proverb, “The dog understands ‘Take it!’ It does not understand ‘Put it down!’”
