Do you need a separate design system for your staff vs public facing services? It’s a common question, but at the NHS we think the answer is No.

I’ve published a blog post to explain why: digital.nhs.uk/blog/design-...

I like the compost heap idea a lot. I used to use gardening metaphors more often (pruning, weeding, growing, etc) but fell out of the habit. There's so much you can do with them - product portfolio as allotment, perennial vs annual content.

I met him once. I'll never forget the words he spoke to me: "Who are you? Get out of my chair."

Punch & Judy puppets feature heavily in Russel Hoban's sci-fi novel Riddley Walker. It's set in post-apocalyptic Kent and written in a constructed dialect of English. It's great and AFAIK utterly unique.

He's very clear-eyed about its use (and the limits of its use) in healthcare. And he recognises that human in the loop is essential for now. There's also a nice line about comparing it to the alternative rather than 'perfect'.

This podcast interview with Bob Wachter on the use of AI in healthcare is great - covers scribing, health record summaries, diagnosis support, expert advice.

I work with lots of clinical SMEs. It works best when they are able to get involved with user researchers and designers (esp content designers) at the early stages of ideation, prototyping, user testing, etc.

If they operate as a single pre-launch assurance checkpoint problems are identified too...

Saw Cardiacs (first time!) in Brixton tonight. I've never seen so many middle-aged weirdos (complimentary) in one place.

I love it when Brunner pops up in my timeline. Yes, good spot. I think a similar concept exists in some Philip K Dick story but I can't remember which one.

Yeah, really good @jasonkitcat.bsky.social. The bit that had me nodding along the most was your point about now being the time to experiment and learn. My worry is that a lot of people are betting the farm on something very uncertain.

Really enjoyed this piece, which sums up some of the issues I've been wrestling with, particularly the expectation of 'tech = savings!!!', and the spam-vs-anti-spam we're likely to see.

This is the Gov looking for your input on the BBC. It takes a while to complete (15/20 mins) but it’s pretty comprehensive and covers most aspects.

Please share. I’m surprised many people haven’t seen it yet.
