I wrote an essay about how we get to the other side of patriarchy. The essay is about my father, a prison cell, a jar, and what I’ve learned after a decade of unlearning.

I hope to see you on the tour for Ghost in the Criminal Justice Machine: Confirmed dates in Oakland, San Francisco, Santa Cruz and Chicago: www.reframeconsults.com/events - please RSVP!
I felt like I didn’t have the best language to have this conversation. I dedicated the next years to thinking this through.
Ghost in the Criminal Justice System is an offering of frameworks to be shared with your communities so we can have these conversations, so we can come up with solutions.
I wrote this book for many reasons. I’d been organizing for a decade in prison, and I witnessed the ways we in justice work have beautiful, courageous intentions and yet we often exacerbate the problems we fight against.
It’s publication day for Ghost in the Criminal Justice Machine: Reform, White Supremacy, and an Abolitionist Future by Emile Suotonye DeWeaver, my debut, out with The New Press @thenewpress.bsky.social.
Drawing on his lived experience and years of organizing from inside, DeWeaver challenges the assumptions behind rehabilitation and reform, and imagines a path toward true abolition.

If groups in power can control what we experience, they can own our imaginations.
