Here's what happened this week in North Carolina politics.
Our legislature is disgraceful, but we're keeping our mountains in our hearts. β€οΈβ°οΈ

Iβll always believe in freedom.
The freedom to move without a car.
The freedom to choose an alternative to a box that kills 40,000+ Americans a year.
The freedom to safely get around for free β w/ our legs, our stroller, our wheelchairs, our bikes.
β¦even if no one else does.
You'll never be able to convince me that we HAVE to have cars in America.
However, I understand that they have become part of our identity.
Our personality, our status.
Our relationship with metal boxes in America is far too gone. To the point, we can't think for ourselves.
You may have heard the term 'car brain' before. To some, it's when being behind the wheel of a vehicle takes over our emotions. Say, road rage.
To me, it's how we believe cars have a brain. That they have emotion. That we would hurt their feelings, if we don't stroke their ego.
Notice, 'hostile to cars' and not drivers.
We are all pedestrians at some point and feel safer walking/rolling AWAY from heavy machinery.
Cars don't have feelings, atleast not yet. So since when does it make sense to put their feelings before our own?

Gonna try and connect Substack, Bluesky and Threads so I can be more consistent in my thought sharing across platforms.
Also streamlining closer to my interest than 100% transit advocacy so be prepared for secondhand shopping, third spaces, bike/transit commuter stories and Commanders Football!
Every horror movie starts with parents leaving the babysitter behind and heading out to their car. But what if the real horror story is having to drive?

My wife is now a confident, skilled e-cargo bike rider, but this clip captures her very first ride on an ebike on a steep alley hill behind Perennial Cycle in Minneapolis.
This was the moment she discovered the empowering potential of ebikes, just a few years after learning to ride a bike herself.

We know this is an uphill battle, with parts of Charlotte where transit isnβt even an option.
This is unacceptable and causes congestion across the Queen City.
If a vehicle is the only option, weβve failed. Reliable, safer, and more frequent alternatives are a must.
As Executive Director of @transitfirstclt.bsky.social, I'm thrilled to announce that Charlotteβs only nonprofit SOLELY focused on active & rapid transit is 1 of 10 selected for #SEED20 OnStage 2025!
Canβt wait to amplify our mission & advocate for a city where transit is your FIRST option.
Thanks Ray! I really appreciate it as always!
This was so clutch! Thank you so much !

Hey Charlotteans, yall on this app yet?
A satellite image of the N Davidson Street and Jordan Place intersection in Charlotte, which has a Dutch-style protected intersection treatment for bicyclists and pedestrians.
The N Davidson / Jordan Pl intersection from the southwest corner, looking east.
The N Davidson / Jordan Pl intersection from the southwest corner, looking north.
The N Davidson / Jordan Pl intersection from the northwest corner, looking west.
Have you ever biked or walked through a protected or "Dutch" intersection before? This treatment uses concrete to protect pedestrians and bicyclists from cars, and shortens crossing distances. This is N Davidson @ Jordan Pl in Charlotte, NC. Would love to see this become the norm in #Carrboro.
It's only right that the first person I follow on here is @nerd4cities.bsky.social.
Now what?!
