This bill allows the newly established TN Office of Homeland Security to keep records of its investigations confidential forever including evidence gathered and potentially the judicial records. No other law enforcement agencies in the state are allowed this “forever confidential exemption”. The public should be able to monitor its actions. Senate bill 2653 will be heard on TUESDAY in the Senate Commerce & Labor Committee. Data Centers are expanding in Tennessee and creating new strains on the environment and their communities. Their large-scale operations require extraordinary amounts of electricity and water and can overwhelm the capacity of local infrastructure. They are often located in places with few zoning regulations. This bill would require a prospective data center to get permits from the Water and Wastewater Operator Certification Board overseen by the Tennessee Department of the Environment (TDEC) prior to operation.
