Fascinating analysis of a BIG lake macrophyte database! I'll be re-reading this one closely for its application to our complementary work in Michigan.
#DYK about the invasive alga starry stonewort? MAISRC researchers have been analyzing its presence in Minnesota for over 10 years. Read more about their recent work here: maisrc.umn.edu/starry-stone...

Thank you for sharing flowers! We're in the midst of a blizzard in northern Michigan, US, and am VERY ready for spring!
Here's an easy opportunity to contribute to forest research.
A promotional graphic for the “MiCorps AIS Detection Blitz.” The top text reads “MiCorps AIS Detection Blitz – Help Track Aquatic Invasive Species – Just Snap & Upload!” Below, on the left, there is a photo of an aquatic plant with a smartphone illustration overlay showing the iNaturalist logo. On the right, a boxed message reads: “June 29th–July 12th 2026. During the MiCorps AIS Detection Blitz, anyone enjoying Michigan’s lakes and rivers can contribute to a statewide effort—just by snapping and uploading photos to iNaturalist!” A section labeled “How to Participate” explains how to participate: download the iNaturalist app, create an account, and join the “MiCorps AIS Detection Blitz” project to upload photos during the event dates. At the bottom, a message encourages involvement in community science and notes that “Every observation counts!” The iNaturalist logo and the Michigan Clean Water Corps logo appear side by side.
Get ready! MiCorps is once again hosting their Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Detection Blitz, hosted on @inaturalist.bsky.social ! Sign up now, and get ready to report observations of know or suspected aquatic invasive species between June 29 and July 12.

I would suspect that the lake would be too warm. Cass County is outside of the historic range for grayling in Michigan (see this slide deck from some of my MSU/DNR colleagues).

There are still spots available, Michigan botanists!

I remember when I learned that common loons aren't black and white year-round. My mind was kind of blown. Isn't this winter plumage beautiful, though, too?
Now this is cool
There are still spots open to come learn aquatic plants with Erick Elgin, Jeremy Hartsock, and me! #MacrophyteMonday

I've kept "I hate myself, I hate clover, and I hate bees" pinned above my desk since I first started studying evolutionary biology as an undergraduate. So relatable to get extremely frustrated with your study system.
Relying on an old energy grid, hurricane-battered Puerto Ricans face frequent blackouts. Bad Bunny showcased the crisis in his historic Super Bowl halftime show just weeks after the Trump administration canceled programs meant to build a cleaner, resilient system on the island.
