The USPS can't "run out of money," the sole question is the people in charge of the federal government believe delivering mail is worth funding the same way they already fund armed kidnapping gangs, concentration camps, and blowing up girls' schools.

Fundraiser for librarian Luanne James, who stood up to her rightwing library board that demanded she remove kids books with any trace of LBGTQ+ characters or content.
"I will not comply."
They sacked her and cops escorted her out.
She's a hero. This banned author just donated.
THREAD: Cherise Doyley was in her 12th hour of contractions at the hospital when a tablet was brought to her bedside.
On the screen was a Zoom call with a judge and several lawyers and doctors.
She was in court, a nurse told her. The reason? For failing to agree to a C-section.
If you weren't aware, libraries currently pay significantly more for digital resources than the average consumer, which devastates the budgets of libraries trying to meet their community's needs.

I’m repeatedly struck by the fact that GenAI co’s have stolen zetabytes of copyrighted material, and the federal govt repeatedly defaces ©️ material through its vile memes — yet I had to waste three years, and potentially lose two yrs’ salary, bc a troll was mad I used a photo, w credit, in a class
Very cute illustrated cover of a zine titled "Fiery Recipes to Abolish ICE". Cover is Risograph printed in blue and yellow and features illustrations of peppers and fires with fun facial expressions.
Three scenes describing the zine. Text reads: "Fiery Recipes to Abolish ICE is a cooking zine that features 10 spicy recipes from 10 different food writers. We are raising funds to donate to anti-ICE groups because everyone should have the right to safety, food, and the freedom to live in the U.S., a country built by immigrants. Besides zine production and mailing costs, ALL of the proceeds will be donated to Minnesota-based organizations fighting against the injustices of ICE."
Check out "Fiery Recipes to Abolish ICE," a riso-printed cook zine raising money for Minnesota organizations fighting ICE! $30 includes shipping & support for MN immigrants. 🌶🔥

Operation Metro Love Thy Neighbor Hello Friends of Operation Metro Love Thy Neighbor! Many of our neighbors in Minneapolis are being targeted based on the color of their skin, their accent, or their country of origin. From a healthcare standpoint, this is leading to very scary outcomes, as patients are terrified to leave home and are foregoing necessary care in an effort to stay safe. For moms and babies, medical professionals scramble to meet these needs and to ensure patient safety. As neighbors and community members, we want to ensure these moms and babies have their needs met in terms of supplies, personal care items, and infant and toddler items. While it's a far cry from a baby shower, we are doing our best to ensure that our neighboring mamas have what they need in times of massive distress. All items purchased on this list will be delivered to me and then immediately sent out into the community for maximum impact. On behalf of all the mama and baby teams, we so appreciate your love and generosity.
Black image with white text and white line drawing of a parent holding a baby. Text reads: "Mama + Baby donations needed. All items with an asterisk must be unused. Other items may be gently used. These items will go to immediate homes and be appreciated. [heart emoji] Thank you! ITEMS NEEDED: diapers (size 0-6)*, baby wipes*, pacifiers*, teething items*, free and clear detergent, baby shampoo, baby-safe lotion, infant clothing (all sizes), infant hats, baby blankets, burp cloths, swaddlers, hands-free baby carriers, breastfeeding guards*, feeding pillows, maternity pillows, belly bands, nipple cream*, pimps, infant safe toys, pack + play, epsom salt."
We're seeing a drop off in newborn donations in Minneapolis. Birth workers are seeing small/early babies due to stress/food insecurity—ICE has not stopped—families still in desperate need of support. If you're able, here is a wishlist compiled by folks doing mutual aid

I just called this place and asked how to donate, they are @leostowingmn on Venmo

To all who have been following Fobazi’s story, I’ve posted an update to the GoFundMe page. We’ve been inundated with messages asking how people can best support @elenamaris.bsky.social during this time, and my post answers that question.
Thank you in advance for reading it 🙏🏼 gofund.me/2a39028c1
February 19, 6:30–8:00 p.m. ET - @librariesftp.bsky.social is organizing an open house for people who are interested in joining their local Friends of the Library or Library Foundation group—or are already involved in some way. docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...
What an incredible loss. Wishing comfort for Fobazi’s friends and family.
No!!!!!!
With sorrow, we announce the passing of FOBAZI M. ETTARH 1989 - 2026. Fobazi changed so many lives with her friendship, love, and brilliance. She was so loved, and leaves behind a powerful legacy. We thank Fobazi's community for their support over the last several months of her illness. A private burial will be held for family. We will be in touch with further information about a future Celebration of Life event, as well as ways to support Fobazi's family and legacy.

This article is a very good example of why "more training" and "more vetting" isn't the answer. Jesus Ochoa and Raymundo Gutierrez joined Border Patrol in 2018 and 2014 respectively. These aren't new agents. www.propublica.org/article/alex...
I wrote a quick blog post in 2014 titled "police reforms you should always oppose." It went viral and became the basis of a chart created by Critical Resistance to evaluate abolitionist steps. Money for training and body cams were the first two on my list.
Yes, immigration agents not only took Arnoldo's phone, the 10th grader had to use Find My Phone to locate it — in a vending machine for used electronics, close to an ICE detention center.

One of the things that genuinely shocked me as I read through surveillance logs for the police is how much of their energy and attention is dedicated to shutting down vigils and other ceremonies of remembrance.
This is one of my fave when mine is bad (sans lemon and vinegar): smittenkitchen.com/2019/01/cozy... I als swear by watermelon and brothy beans. Good luck with your mom!
I think this post nails the actual problem, for researchers at least—AI hallucinations would simply not be a problem in academic work if we’d not normalized citation-as-signaling rather than actual engagement—you can only cite a fake paper if you’re not in the habit of reading the papers you cite
At the HHS announcement yesterday announcing proposed rules to ban GAC, they said trans people are "at the root of the evils we face" and are "a hatred for nature as God designed it and for life as it was meant to be lived.”
Just in case you thought it was about concerns for proper healthcare.
This whole thread but especially the point about asking your librarian instead. As I keep telling people, genAI hallucination rate: 30-80%; librarian hallucination rate: 0%
When creating PDFs, avoid using "Print to PDF." A screen reader user may still be able to access the text of PDFs created this way, but heading structure, alternative text, and any other tag structure will be lost. Using "Save As" or "Export" can preserve these tags.
WOW. @haleaziz.bsky.social with a new scoop: ICE now gets a running list of every person who is going to be taking a domestic flight inside the United States from the TSA and runs it through their database looking for targets. This explains the Babson College student's arrest.
I will say over and over again that us library folk need to be louder in our support of the Post Office. Because guess what—if they start thinking of USPS in terms of“making” or “losing” money, libraries won’t be far behind.
This! Take time to plan and fortify and relish the world we want to build. Libraries can be such a central piece of that.
