I have been blessed to have been mentored and supported and befriended by so many amazing and brilliant scientists that I respect the hell out of, but learning to let go of the hero worship of celebrity scientists really does make it easier to exist in this world.

NZ's govt has announced reforms to science funding
just one line about basic science in there: "Discovery-led science & research will continue to be funded. This will sit outside the pillars & is essential for maintaining vibrant curiosity-driven science system"
yea mate seems like a real priority
Early this morning, daylight saving began in New Zealand for another year. This is, I think, a good opportunity to highlight two Kiwi innovations: it was the first country in the world to establish a national mean time and a New Zealander invented DST. How did that happen? Well, read on... 1/20
We meet again. Friends will know I had a horrific encounter with this ethics committee member last year that delayed a lot of research due to fears about putting my LGBTQIA+ students in front of an ethics committee that condones this conduct. Much appreciation for this new complaint 👏👏👏
1/ @drmonnica.bsky.social and colleagues, Imani Farber, and Sonya Faber respond to a "the Behavior Therapist" piece that absent of any data mischaracterizes social justice at ABCT and pits it against other goals of the organization.

horrifying news out of NZ - "refocusing" the Marsden Fund to drop social sciences and humanities research and emphasize the trendy business interests of the week. short-sighted, grotesquely anti-scientific, ideologically driven.

😫
This is so backward
1. Science is more than just commercialisable widgetry
2. Making progress on our biggest problems (climate change, infectious diseases, misinfo to name a few) will need more collaboration between STEM and hum/social sci not less.
Yeah, I assumed it was those two panels, so there’s still room for psych, but jeez. What a shortsighted view of the value of humanities and social sciences
Absolute nightmare
