Of course it's not fast, and it's not easy. But there are practical strategies and techniques you can use.
Our Datafolk Club had some pointers - read the writeup of the conversation here:

And one of our brilliant associate trainers has some ideas here:

When it comes to what organisations struggle with in building good data culture, resources and prioritisation are the main themes.
But good data culture can be built. We've worked with some organisations with great data cultures (hint: they are also the organisations doing best at data as a whole).
Data: 'Fragmented', 'Fearful', 'Inefficient', 'Lacking focus on the people it serves'. Does this sound familiar?
When we got our Nonprofit Datafolk Club together to talk about their experiences of data culture, these are some of the themes that emerged.
How do you identify your audience for data storytelling and what kind of prior knowledge would you assume they have? What makes a good data story/visualisation? What are some brilliant examples of data-driven stories?
Our Nonprofit Datafolk Club got together recently to discuss:

We’ve been named a Finalist at the British Data Awards 2026 🤩
The British Data Awards is an annual quest to discover and celebrate data success stories in the UK. We're told a record 462 nominations were submitted this year, so we’re especially delighted to be chosen as a Finalist.
“Really well organised course. Content was fantastic. It was also great to network with a small cohort of leaders from other not for profit organisations on their data maturity.” - Roland Guy, People and Culture Director, Together Trust

“I've found that understanding the impact of data-driven decisions along with practical frameworks and ideas on how to implement change has really helped to support new initiatives and processes in our organisation.” - Sarah Clarke, Head of Membership & Insight, CharityComms
Here's what some of our previous attendees have said:
“The Data for Leaders content found the sweet spot between technical concepts and strategic considerations, which was exactly what I was looking for. 5 stars!” - Steve Thorlby-Coy, Director of Transformation, Hospice UK
So if you've been mulling over joining, now's the time to act! The April course is still priced at £499+vat. From September, prices go up to (early birds) £599+vat and (standard) £699+vat.
Last few weeks to catch old training course prices.
The April Data for Leaders course is the last chance to catch lower prices. When we scheduled courses for the next financial year, we made the difficult decision to increase prices to cover our costs.

How do you build data culture? We've long felt that culture is one of the most important factors in getting better at data. And it's also one of the hardest to crack.

So, in recognition of International Women's Day, we've been asking our team for the advice they would give to other women getting into data. Next up, our co-CEO Madeleine Spinks gives her honest advice for fellow women:
What advice would you give to other women getting into data?
We're a women-led social enterprise helping organisations get better at data, and a high proportion of our team are women. But, despite this, 'data' is still considered a male-dominated profession.
