Ways to affirm trans youth. 1, Use Their Affirmed Name and Pronouns. Work at this, no matter how awkward or difficult it may feel. It is the right thing to do because it tells them you see and accept them for who they are, which is life-changing. Itโs normal to make mistakes, in which case quick correction is all that is needed to help your brain rewire.
Ways to affirm trans youth. 2, they are still the same kiddo. Being a young person is about so much more than gender and bodies. Some kiddos want to talk about their transition, some donโt. Follow their lead and remember, theyโre still the same person with their likes, dislikes, interests, talents and hobbies โ now theyโve just let you in on a new part of them.
Ways to affirm trans youth. 3, donโt make it about you. As an ally to transgender people, itโs important that cisgender adults do their own internal work around gender rather than putting their own feelings and biases on trans people, especially youth. Itโs important not to make trans people have to explain โGender 101โ to you when reputable resources and helping professionals exist.
Ways to affirm trans youth. 4, celebrate trans joy. Despite all the challenges trans youth may face, it isnโt helpful to only focus on the hard stuff. The trans experience includes strong communities and spaces of resilience and pride, gender euphoria, bravery, creativity and the exploration of self, all incredible things worthy of celebration.

The Injunction Against Bill 26 Has Been Lifted: Affirming care ban to come into effect. Despite our best efforts, today the Government of Alberta was able to bring an end to the injunction against Bill 26 on the basis of its use of the notwithstanding clause. This is a cruel and dangerous move by a government that will harm vulnerable young people. Egale Canada and Skipping Stone will not stop fighting. Together, with lawyers from McCarthy Tรฉtrault LLP, we will be seeking a new injunction based on constitutional arguments not subject to the notwithstanding clause. To the trans youth and families in this province, know that while the Government has violently taken away your rights, they can never legislate away your transness, your beautiful existence or how deserving you are of all the beauty and happiness this world has to offer.
