A global majority adopted a landmark UN resolution to advance reparations for injustices linked to enslavement legacies.
Who didn't vote in favor of the resolution? Many Global North countries facing calls for reparatory justice.
The time for action is now.

Want to hear rare good news?
A Belgian court opened a criminal trial against a former Belgian official for his alleged involvement in the killings of Lumumba, the DRC's first PM, & two senior officials during decolonization.
Justice delayed shouldn't be justice denied.

The court found it was "a clear case of discrimination."
Real estate agents like landlords have to adhere to Germany's General Equal Treatment Act (AGG).
Studies have already shown that racial/ethnic discrimination in the housing market is a daily reality for racialized people in Germany.

Waseem's reaction highlights the systemic nature of such discrimination in the housing market:
"No matter how well I integrate, no matter how educated I am - I will always be the foreigner. A Julia Schneider will have far more opportunities than I will."

Humaira Waseem's application for a viewing of an apartment was rejected when she used her first and last name (a Pakistani name).
When she tried with a "German"-sounding name, while still including the same information about her income etc., she was suddenly offered a viewing appointment.
2/4
‼️Germany's federal court of justice ruled that a real estate agent who didn't provide a viewing appointment based on a prospective tenant's "foreign"-sounding name constituted racial discrimination according to Germany's anti-discrimination law.‼️
This isn't an individual case.

"They left the building. Not the truth."
A powerful new documentary, 80 Angry Journalists, shows how Hungary’s once-independent news outlet Index was taken over, and how reporters resigned together rather than submit to political pressure.

Did you know that a historic case is being pursued in a Belgian court seeking individual criminal responsibility for colonial crimes in the court of a former colonial power?
The court's decision on whether to pursue a criminal trial is expected on March 17.

A month ago, a police raid in low-income, mostly Black neighborhoods in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, resulted in 122 killings.
The deadly results and tactics employed suggest that the true intention may have been to kill, rather than arrest suspects.

Police have failed to take crucial steps to investigate 121 killings during a raid in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Police didn´t preserve crime scenes and the chain of custody of evidence.
Authorities should ensure a thorough, independent investigation.

An anti-drug police operation in low-income neighborhoods of Rio de Janeiro has resulted in more than 100 killings.
Rio authorities’ decisions leading to such a disastrous operation should be investigated. Families of victims deserve truth and justice.
A win for Windrush campaigners:
Private pension losses will now be compensated under the #Windrush Compensation Scheme--important considering the age of claimants.
BUT without free legal representation, access to compensation is hampered.

Neuer Kommentar von @almazteffera.bsky.social zu Deutschlands neuer Leitlinie über die Restitution kolonialer Kulturgüter und warum diese nicht menschenrechtskonform ist👇🏽
"...the guidelines in their current form are a missed opportunity. The German government should look at them again with rights and justice in mind."
- @almazteffera.bsky.social / @hrw.org

Returning colonial-era cultural belongings & ancestral remains is an international human rights & reparations issue. Communities' rights should be at the core. Yet Germany's new guidelines distance themselves from international law.
Returns aren't goodwill gestures.

Chancellor #Merz' statements are entrenched in systemic #racism, they aren't just individual racist statements. He's defending existing structural discrimination based on race/ethnicity/religion/status...instead of fulfilling #Germany's duty to end such discrimination under int'l human rights law.
So let me get this straight - the Home Secretary thinks the Council of Europe shouldn't stand up for people's rights in the UK now because that might affect its ability to do so in the future. Good grief.
QUOTE CARD with text “The German government’s plans to punish some social security recipients with severe cuts to support demonstrates contempt for their human rights. This harsh approach will increase poverty, erode social cohesion, and push many into destitution." Kartik Raj, Senior Europe Researcher
The German government's plan for social security "reform" is bad news for #humanrights.
I tried to set out why for @hrw.org here, a couple of weeks back, as we awaited details of these plans:
www.hrw.org/news/2025/09...
The EU joining consensus for the annual UN Human Rights Council resolution on racism is the right signal.
European states chose not to call for a vote bc of inclusion of language on #reparations.
