It's just unreal how little thought or planning went into starting a new massive war in the Middle East.

NEW: WebinarTV, a company that bills itself as “a search engine for the best webinars,” is secretly scanning the internet for Zoom meeting links, recording the calls, and turning them into AI-generated podcasts for profit.
@emanuelmaiberg.bsky.social reports:
Are you an early career science communicator? Do you have an interesting idea for a project? Make sure you check out the Josh Award
Back in January I had a lovely chat with Ranjini Bhattacharya for @smbmathbiology.bsky.social's #BiologyInNumbers pod.

"The brutal reality check seemingly hasn’t put Peretti off from pursuing AI, though. He now says he’s hoping to bring “new AI apps to the market” this year." 🙄
Remembering my time at university and the joy of learning. I hated exams and writing essays, but thoroughly enjoyed thinking through my ideas. The thought of handing over that process to an AI is so sad to me.
But on inevitability, it seems like its only inevitable because people keep saying it is!
Ufff, that was a painful read.

What a great idea for a course. One of the many tasks an academic is expected to undertake, usually without any formal training.
My friend @crystalmendoza.bsky.social doing all the good things to support science ❤️

I’m looking for speakers for a London event on the science of Star Trek. I’d really appreciate suggestions from underrepresented minorities in STEM, especially PoC/global majority.
(10 min, central London, Sept, currently unpaid but I’m trying to fix that)
Feel free to message

Hahahaha. As a Londoner I snorted in recognition.
Phone notifications from our security camera in the garage. It repeatedly states that a pet has been spotted
It's me Eufy you dumbass. I am the pet.
This started after the camera fell off the wall a couple of days ago and I'm starting to thinks it's developed brain damage.
Today is HPV Awareness Day.
80% of people will get a high-risk #HPV infection at some point in their lives. Unfortuinately for a small minority like myself, the virus will go onto cause cancer. But it can be prevented through vaccination. #HPVawareness #cansky

OK, so last week I recorded a podcast episode with a gyne oncologist who says that vaccines may be effective even after diagnosis, including cases where the cancer has spread. Not necessarily a cure, but potentially slowing down or stopping progression! 🤯
That sounds like it would get soggy and I can't believe anyone would approve of that...
Wrong answers only.
A new diaphragm.
Like other professionals, scientists are considering the impacts of #AI. The @smbmathbiology.bsky.social is no exception. Reinhard Laubenbacher shared his thoughts on how AI could be incorporated into #MathBio in a meaningful way.

‘Don’t go to the US – not with Trump in charge’: the UK tourist with a valid visa detained by ICE for six weeks
"The parents said that they hope sharing their son’s story might help other families going through a similar ordeal."
I don't understand what they think they'll achieve.
Also they had no problems with the MRI, spinal tap, antibiotics and who knows what other meds, but the vaccine is the problem?
It's been a while friends partly because of good things, partly super sad. But now we have a year of fun travels in the works, so we're looking forward to introducing you to old friends, and new as we seek out cool new scientists to share their stories with you.
So watch this space!

The fact that they can't spell "success" should be an indicator of:
a) what they consider to be successful
b) whether we should in any way take them seriously
