The problem is that everyone has so many options to overlook, so I don’t know how to make sure anyone would choose my work to not give a damn about.
It’s downright discouraging.
If I was to put together a newsletter exploring storytelling and prose through the lens of board game mechanics, how many people do you think I could get to completely ignore it?
I’d hope it’s a lot, but I can’t tell if that’s my hubris talking.

If I’d known we were watching it, I would’ve worn my
“I’m a fan-gella
of Frank Langella” T-shirt.
Second Film:
Masters of the Universe (1987)
m.imdb.com/title/tt0093...
Watched it as a kid, but never in a theater! I know it’s picked up a cheesy reputation, but it’s a solid film. I don’t think Don Coscarelli gets enough credit.
First Film:
The Beastmaster (1982)
m.imdb.com/title/tt0083...
First Trailers:
Excalibur (1981)
The Black Cauldron (1985)
The Beastmaster (1982)
I’m currently pondering that classic movie-going question…
“Am I about to watch the Barbarian Brothers?”
It’s a question I haven’t asked myself since Oppenheimer.
The marquee at Brain Dead Studios, which reads “Secret Sixteen Swords & Sorcery”
In line and ready for Secret 16’s 6-film 80s Sword & Sorcery surprise marathon at Brain Dead Studios.
Will post the films as they’re revealed (from the lobby, natch.)

In Billie Jean, Michael Jackson specifically says “the kid is not my son.” But he never actually says the kid is a boy…
Were we secretly listening to an “Actually, the doctor was his mother,” type of brain teaser this whole time?
The theme park.
Got a casting notice for Universal Studios Hollywood that they’re looking for actors to play Ian Malcom, Dennis Nedry and John Hammond.
Basically, the male equivalent of the “maiden, mother and crone.”
Wasn’t expecting any existential questions when I opening the casting notice from Universal Studios Hollywood, but the question “Do I fit the role of Dennis Nedry?” really made me question some life choices.
Creative solidarity means:
If you're a writer, do not use AI "art" or AI "voiceover"
If you're an artist, do not use AI "writing" or AI "references"
If you're a streamer/actor, do not use AI for backdrops, thumbnails, etc.
Never help AI steal another medium
No excuses, no shortcuts, no surrender.
Romantic movies place so much importance on saying "I love you," while completely ignoring the phrase I actually want to hear from my loved ones:
"Let me handle that for you."
This is why I regularly let people know how awesome I think they are.
We often think that awesome people must naturally know they’re awesome, but they don’t. And letting them know could be the little push that they really needed that day.
Here’s @realgdt.bsky.social in NYC expanding on his rallying cry of ‘fuck AI!’, talking about how art and even love come from shared pain and movies can save your life. This shit made me and others in the audience cry as much as his version of Frankenstein…
Meh.
Also, coffee.
The trick is having so much stress in your regular life that watching brutal killings is like relaxing stroll through a gentle Summer rain.
