Firing federal employees during a shutdown is not only illegal but must be seen for what it is: blatant extortion.
The Trump Administration is using working people and their families as pawns in a power play with no concern for who gets hurt.
Make no mistake-- today’s Supreme Court ruling does not end constitutionally guaranteed birthright citizenship. However, the SCOTUS has ruled against the injunctions that have been blocking The Trump Administration’s birthright citizenship EO from being implemented nationwide.
Medicaid cuts in the House E & C Cmte bill would take health coverage away from millions by slashing hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funds. Loss of coverage means diseases go untreated & families face exorbitant medical debt.🧵 energycommerce.house.gov/posts/chairm...
House Republican plan would harm 4.5 million U.S. citizen children by stripping away their access to the Child Tax Credit if either of their parents file taxes w/o an SSN: cmsny.org/publications...
The President left out "for the wealthy' when talking about the tax cuts he supports. His proposals, which are included in the House budget resolution, cut taxes for the top 1% and pay for it by cutting food assistance and Medicaid. #CBPPJointAddress
How to keep kids healthy & strong: protect and strengthen Medicaid health coverage and food assistance through SNAP. Don't slash them to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy www.cbpp.org/press/statem...
An agenda to lower costs for families? The President has supported the House budget plan that would make it harder for families to afford health care, food and college. #CBPPJointAddress
A balanced budget? The House Budget Resolution’s tax cuts are so large that even with massive cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, and student loans the budget would INCREASE the deficit. #CBPPJointAddress
“Today interest rates took a big beautiful drop”
That’s because the stock market did!
Trump promises tax cuts for everyone.
The tax increases he imposed today would wipe out any tax cuts the bottom of 40% of Americans would receive.
This doesn’t count additional import taxes he’s considering or the cuts to Medicaid and nutrition assistance.
Speaking of investments...Since the IRA was passed, companies have announced and advanced 751 new clean energy projects totaling 406,007 new jobs and over $422 billion in investments across 48 states and Puerto Rico. t.co/213LZ3M5Pp
As we listen to President Trump paint a dark & misleading picture about immigrants in his joint address to Congress, I’m reminded that our lives are interconnected with immigrants in direct & indirect ways.
The fact that Trump would blatantly lie people age 100+ receiving Social Security is scary.
Either he *grossly* misunderstands what's in Social Security data, despite being debunked by his own acting Commissioner.
Or, it's a pretext for slashing earned benefits for people who are very much alive.
These are blatant and widely debunked lies about Social Security.
Heartbreaking and senseless.
@sharonparrott.bsky.social on last night's Senate vote setting the path to take health coverage & help buying groceries away from people to pay for huge, costly tax cuts for the wealthy -- with a look ahead to potential House vote next week.
Important: If Republicans refuse to extend improved tax credits for people who use the Affordable Care Act marketplaces, 3.8 million people will become uninsured and nearly 20 million people will face higher premium costs. wapo.st/4ihkHE9
This is not an agenda that lowers costs for people.
NEW Paper: The deep corporate tax rate cut was the centerpiece of the 2017 Trump tax law. Like the overall law, it was skewed in favor of wealthy people, very expensive, and failed to deliver on its promises. It needs to be revisited

When Speaker Johnson was asked today on CNBC about his support for a fiscal commission he said, “the catch is you want to make sure that they don’t go in with the idea that they would be raising taxes,” & he reiterated his support for more tax cuts. www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPrR...,
