TA response to all that difficulty? Immaculate. Judges & Staff rolled w/ the punches, made solutions on the fly, filled in draft seats, and generally were just awesome. Though I'm sure they were stressed beyond belief, they STILL all had smiles on at the end of the day. That's love for cube, baby.
Last thing - a HUGE huge shout out to the event coordinators @thechicagocube.bsky.social as well as the judge staff. This event was freaking fantastic. It was a first-time event, and on the tech side tons went wrong. We couldn't get draft seats, couldn't get pairings, decklists, pretty much anything
And a tale I've told a few times now: "Then Nicole kicked me out of the top8".
This time she had to wait til the finals to do it! Congrats and well played to @nicoledubin.bsky.social who really ranched me. Cube rocks because sometimes you get to jam v players way better than you and learn from them
Best/funniest moment was Semis vs Fritz. Op cast Armix & I had to ask what it did - I asked "it has to attack, right?" (meaning for the trigger)
Fritz, apparently having played bad cards all day, responded "No" (meaning 'it's not forced to attack each turn') ๐
(we figured it out a moment later)
Oh, I didn't play that Stoke the Flames by the way. I don't recall what I played over it.
Priest of the Forgotten gods did so much work this draft - it chewed through a lingering souls, through a Baleful Strix with Sevinne's Recursion, on and on. Every time I draft the card it gets better & better
On to the top8 playing @thechicagocube.bsky.social.
This one I've drafted b4. Sadly don't have picks in order (we were rushing for time against the venue). P1p1 was Voice of Victory, then Marsh Flats, Shadowy Backstreet, Priest of Forgotten Gods. Picked a Torrential Gearhulk next but U wasn't open
This was my 3-0, carried by busted rares. Hardest pick was P2P5 when presented with Tinker v Opportunity. Thran Dynamo and Key were gone from p1, and I had just shipped a Phyrexian Colossus. Still, Tinker for Masticore seemed too good if I could get there (which I didn't). Good enough though!
Draft 2 was Urza Block Cube (I don't know if the creator is on Bsky?)
Opened Masticore which was great. Hilariously, all of pack 1 was so weak that I was assuming this was a "lower power" rendition of Urza Block with some power outliers. Then I found a Morphling, Treachery, and Tinker in pack 2 ๐
(For what it's worth, I was surely going to lose the match that ended in a draw)
Ended up passing Gates Ablaze because we were a pod of 6 and I was concerned about the number of payoffs, figuring if I didn't draw the Gates Ablaze I could just crumble. Ended up going 1-1-1 with an Arisocrats pile - deck was very strong when it drew Hidden Stockpile and less strong when it didnt
(Picks are in pick order, start in top left and read down)
First up was Millenium Spellslinger by @triske.chicagostylecu.be!
P1p1 Morgue Toad out of a weak pack, other considerations were a 2W pacifism or a 4B exile kill spell. P1p2 was much harder when presented with a Gates Ablaze.

Don't tell me "I'll just remember" I've seen you play Fallen Shinobi ๐
Alright mtgcube community, how are we remembering to give the land back at end of game?
Good morning, everyone!
A reminder that Floor Judge Applications for CubeCon DMV close on April 12 (Sunday).

Going off with 5 kittens in play, inf mana, clock running down. Cast brain freeze storm = 17, click opponent. Brain freeze targets opponent. Storm trigger. Clock runs out. Storm trigger resolves, all copies target... Me. Wtf. Thus ends the most fun deck I've played of late =(
the original inspiration to create my simic cube was "i want to play with tradewind rider and opposition again" ๐
