hopefully one of the last days it makes sense to read this. not sure what to make of the tone shift and resolution but it is fascinating

a bit repetitive. the shorter and more image-centric poems tend to be the strongest

bunch of raptors over the river today but could only identify a bald eagle. they really are wonderful birds despite the associations

strongly identify with rumi’s tendency toward hyperbole. everybody who hates me on twitter needs to read this and learn the lessons

nicer experience than penguin’s li po and tu fu although it’s enriched by that book’s history; mainly tracking the development of metaphor in the notes. same romanization, and even less chinese ie none. du mu’s translations are the best. lu tong’s poem about a frog that eats the moon is excellent

master of the subtle rhythms of plain speech: small wonder he’s the greatest english language haiku translator. every poem is about death even the title

nice translations in a simple, lovely presentation with the original and romanization (sadly not much use to me but still). in stark contrast to the collection directly above this lol

intro and supplements are horribly written and their organization suffocates the poems. at the same time they contain interesting/crucial info so you can’t skip them. the romanization is awful, and there isn’t nearly enough of the original chinese. verse translation is decent, especially li po’s

you’re in a breakaway with mvdp 30 seconds on the peloton if you’re some scrub okay yes definitely work for your place if you can but vermeersch is not a scrub: he could in theory do something against a spent van der poel after 40k on the front and still he works. makes me sick!

read these before bed exhausted and half-delirious — fairly genius tbh best novels of their kind. also a major influence on pynchon’s scene construction and versification

better than mao ii but similarly feels like a lot of half-formed musings that never coalesce. too bad cause i really felt it was top tier delillo for a while. close to actively pissed off at it by the end
