So that's two posts now that I'm seeing on x where someone goes "why do gay couples adopt boys more often?" and ok who's funding astroturfed homophobia campaigns and why?
Also I might just give up on the hellsite altogether, no one there seems to be having a good time anymore.

I have been described as "good at socializing" by a friend (recent arrival to London, struggles to make friends).

I have no words to describe how profoundly funny that is.

Fair point!
For the record, I think Anthropic did indeed get there first, but we're quickly getting past the point where that's a safe assumption.

The interesting question being, did Anthropic get there first or did openAI choose to stay silent about it?

The fun implication of the mythos zero-days is that anthropic presumably can, and may have, hacked into openai.

I saw that 🤣 it reads like a linkedin job posting

It's always fun to get new insights into my psyche.

For example, I recently found that my brain registers "badly shaved" and "blond" as total identifying characteristics and is thus happy to conflate two completely different people of wildly different heights in a social group as the same person.

In increasing danger of confusing lib.rs and libgen.

Claude is... not quite entirely useless for Rust, but pretty bad.
If I ask it something, the code examples it provides often don't specify which crate things are taken from (missing for example use std::fs), are outdated, or simply broken for reasons I'm not comfortable enough with rust to pinpoint.

The hardest thing when giving advice is to hold back the self-satisfied gloating noises when that advice turns out completely correct

I often find myself thinking that we should really be able to get specialised models that rely more on intelligence than knowledge at some point, once we crack sample efficiency, and it'll be a very different experience for all of the 3 months it lasts before ASI.

The slightly weird thing about LLMs is that for all the talk about their intelligence it's their breadth of knowledge that makes them particularly useful at the moment.

Like, codex is decent at coding but the selling point is that it can deal with things I don't know much about.

I want to register 2 neologisms for entrusting work to agents and hoping for the best:
- yolodex-ing
- yaudel-ing

Technically they tried. It was pretty grim.

Accidentally did a horrible joke over the weekend when a guy went "who's going to tell me what to do, you?" and I replied, on autopilot, "well it should be your mom but..."

It would've been a very funny joke if his mother hadn't died last year. That fact just didn't have time to reach my brain.

Largely, the movie for me progressively morphed into "look at how this unlikable boy is dragging his sister down with him". Pretty much a murder-suicide.
Though through this lens it's an interesting and beautiful and sad movie, but now I feel like my expectations derailed it and it needs a rewatch.

Finally watched Grave of the Fireflies yesterday. I had a mixed reaction.

Like obviously you're not supposed to enjoy the experience, but it didn't quite land as a sad movie either, and definitely not as a horrors of war piece.

I think the way everything goes smoothly with no abrupt break and no surprise

Huh. I got a random email from my former employer's employee shares, which means I got access.

I thought they'd shafted me out of them and was still slightly salty about it three years later but turns out no.

Kudos to them, can always do with an extra £5k.

The issue is that "making life more affordable" has answers like "removing regulatory barriers to competition", which tends to make some people very wealthy.
