Elana Meyers Taylor a few feet ahead of Laura Nolte and Nolte a few feet ahead of Kaillie Armbruster Humphries

Elana Meyers Taylor a few feet ahead of Laura Nolte and Nolte a few feet ahead of Kaillie Armbruster Humphries

If you’re wondering how close today’s monobob race was over 3 1/2 miles of sliding, the IBSF has this handy image for you.

Elana beats Laura by a few feet, and Kaillie by about a sled length.

🤣 there is a young generation that is going to give us a heck of a show the next quad!! But yes. See you in the alps in 2030?! I think I’ll have to try to find a way there to watch & get an Olympic experience off my bucket list.

I have a 2006 Olympic sled I always wanted to turn into a wheeled sled in my garage that looks as good of shape as this one haha. An Iranian (I think?) slider used it!

So we're now less than two weeks out to the start of Olympic sliding in Cortina! Since there's some downtime before we're on ice, here's a quick run down the track, below I'll have a little thread of the curves and how they're named, and we can go into some of the trouble spots along the way.

Second and final Candian in the field is Grace Dafoe. She's got some good experience in Altenberg, but just has a super late start spot so the ice is going to be tough. It's one of those deals where she's new to World Cup, so has late starts, and because of those late starts it's tough to find speed

Field is full. Liang and Ana Torres Quevedo are both out of the second heat. Candada's Grace Dafoe is into 25th, only .03 behind Anna Saulite.

Swiss slider Sara Schmied starts a bit like Swiss legend Marina Gilardoni.

She's down into the early 20s, bumps Grace Dafoe.

Lots of good stories in this second heat of women's skeleton.

We'll start with Grace Dafoe making the 2nd heat of her first ever World Cup race. USA's Mystique Ro looks to make a top 10 in her first trip to St. Moritz, while Katie Uhlaender is in 2nd, .04 behind Kimberley Bos!

The Winterberg track DJ used to play songs loosely based on where sliders were from. Lots of Bryan Adams for Canada over the years, but now it's just some generic dance music for Grace Dafoe.

Grace is down into 21st as she looks to score a career-best on tour.

Grace Dafoe had a really good slide and held onto her spot on the bubble for a few sleds, but is eventually picked off by China's Yuxi Li, who slides into 17th place.

Grace Dafoe is new to the World Cup, so she's had mostly crap start draws. 20th off the top today after the DNS by Marta Andzane.

Into 20th but really not a bad drive there. A few skids out of the curves, but for someone who's not been to Misters Biskvits before this week, a solid effort!

One of the many things I like about Grace: Everyone kind of has their own thing they do just before their run. Lots of people kind of hop up and down, some stand behind their sled or whatever.

Grace is super stoic and always has this stance. That plus the visor is just a fun shot to get sometimes.

Annia Unterscheider has had some good Europe Cup finishes this season. These last three sliders, her, Sara Schmied, and Grace Dafoe, are all athletes who could maybe bump Siji Song, who's been on the bubble seemingly forever now.

Unterscheider is 24th, moves Darta Zunte to the bubble.

Final results: Flock wins, Meylemans silver, Silveira bronze. Tabby Stoecker is fourh, Kimberley Bos fifth, and Jacqueline Pfefier rounds out your top six.

USA's Kelly Curtis and Mystique Ro both in the top 10 in 7th and 9th, Jane Channell the top Canadian in 13th, Grace Dafoe a career-best 24th

Grace Dafoe is your last slider off the top! A little tap in the 1st straight but didn't overcorrect. Grace is sliding well up top, good exit out of Horseshoe! Tons of speed, if she's clean at the bottom she'll be in the second heat! She is, and she is!

Beauty of a slide by Grace Dafoe!

Grace Dafoe had a nice looking slide in the first heat. Secod heat is a little cleaner up top, but looks like she's working a little hard through Nash & Dixon. Lots of speed at the bottom, it's a career-best World Cup finish for Grace Dafoe! No worse than 24th today!
