I saw some actual photos of this earlier and the trousers were actually black and the gong did not have a frame but a red hanger set up. My memory still stands, albeit corrected.

Saw a lapwing, unless it was a plover but Gerard Manley Hopkins isn't here to argue with me so it was a lapwing.
