Lowkey want to start a newsletter about people who move to a rural, remote, and/or LCOL area as a deliberate lifestyle choice. Or maybe there's one out there I don't know about?

I feel like it would be just my luck that the minute I get rid of it, I get asked for it. I suppose I could always buy a policy again in the future if needed.

That's smart. I kind of wish I had gotten rid of it right after that first engagement that required it, tbh

I did a project once with an agency that now requires it. I find that weird. I get that insurance is for worst-case scenarios, but a writing business is SO low risk.

I remember making a LOT of phone calls when I was looking for a policy. It seemed like "freelancer" was a no-no word for many, so I started saying small business owner. I have one agency client who requires it, but I don't do enough work with them to make it worth it...

Freelancers β€” do you have business insurance?

I hold General Liability and Professional Liability policies because a former client required them. But I feel I don't need them? Most clients don't ask about insurance, and the monthly premium feels high.

This graphic + text is very much giving "howdy, partners" and I love it

Freelancing is crazy because just last week I had almost ZERO work to do, and today I had to decline an assignment because I have too much on my plate

I started not one but TWO new hobbies in December β€” cross-country skiing and knitting! I'm slow at both but enjoying myself immensely.

I'm finally adding an "about" page to my newsletter site β€” because @kmarford.bsky.social told me to.

Kaitlyn, any tips for what newsletter writers should include on an "about" page?

the cult of maximum efficiency is one of the worst things to happen to society. I can’t defend studying Latin or reading for pleasure or spending an hour at the park with my niece in a way that will satisfy shareholders. but they’re worth doing because they’re beautiful and good.
