i.e. Ant's good both at POA and a fine enough team defender when all-in. How do you value higher peaks and lower lows vs consistency? A lot depends on team culture and if everyone can do it in the playoffs.

It's much easier to do poorly than well. Ant clearly was less engaged on D this season and it reflects in the on/off driven stuff. Cade was better there than he has been, but isn't the same physical force that Ant is and isn't great.

evaluating the defense of the guy who can play great defense but doesn't always do so vs. the guy grinding out average defense on an excellent defensive team is tough and frustrating.

It's not really true though. Cade's an average defender. better than he used to be now that he's on a real team...but most metrics rank him worse than ant (even with ant taking a lot of plays off).

Cade playing in 5% more games is meaningless. Ant being 10% more effective, or just dice-rolling his way into missing fewer "key matchups" would dwarf the impact of those 3 extra games.
