This is the same reaction I have when people say it's too expensive to build nuclear power. This narrative of austerity and deprivation has got to end.
You know it's serious because Johnson actually admits that he saw it. :)

Wow. Amazingly stupid.
Educate yourself. www.iaea.org/newscenter/n...
You think there will be a 400 meter deep crack and soil will somehow sink all the way down, then rise all the way back up to the surface?
Just for reference, there are natural nuclear reactors, exposed to ground water for millions of years, where radioactive products only moved a few meters.
And without Sweden Denmark's grid would be in big trouble. energy-charts.info/charts/impor... Wind and solar can't stand on their own. They need backup all of the time.
You think there is soil 400 meters underground? :)
Describe how it could.
Like this?
So there must be a grid somewhere that runs on just wind/solar/storage 24x7x365, right? A small one that proves it's possible?
Indeed! app.electricitymaps.com/map/zone/FR/...
And nuclear too!
Thanks for proving that nuclear isn't really that expensive. Awesome work!
Curtailment causes wear. They have to put on the breaks, literally, and the turbines would normally turn but don’t. This stresses the blades.
I see Drax Power Station.
Not just a broken market. A really broken market. :)
I've been hearing that refrain since 2010 or so. (Mark Z Jacobson's ill fated "research".) Hasn't happened yet.
El Hierro claimed to be 100% wind/storage back in 2014. How's that going? app.electricitymaps.com/map/zone/ES-...
Not realistic when a 24x7x365 wind/solar/storage grid has never existed. Quite the opposite.
Twelve if you count the cat plushie.
The cats, they go to 11.
France has a better carbon intensity than Germany, even though Germany has more renewables. app.electricitymaps.com/map/zone/DE/... Let's have some perspective here.
Blind faith. Figures.
Not even a small grid has been built that is only wind/solar/storage. Money isn't the issue.
OK. Why has no amount of money been able to buy a grid that runs on only wind, solar, and storage?
We decide economics. Nature decides physics.
Nature always wins.

And Europe is done listening to unrealistic renewables advocates. bsky.app/profile/vond...
