Very similar story at SUNY. Campus presidents freaked out over "Project Frankenberry", a "loosely coupled" open source LMS that was way ahead of its time.
Pat is an old friend, from his time with SUNY -where his open source advocacy first blossomed ๐
Virginia is for Lovers of Higher Education.
And after that, Disneyland.
An updated Green Briar, but only for Dear Leader.
That's pretty weird. I would go with not enough amps in the main feed, and then the related issue of cooling (A/C), based on the density of blade servers per rack or cabinet.
Back when the dot com boom went bust, the number of empty data centers was mind blowing. But now we're in a building boom. What am I missing? Can't we retrofit older facilities?
An administrative response of "that's opening a can of worms" probably means "we collectively made a bad decision, and revisiting it would admit it".
Back to rating our uni's online efforts with the OLC Quality Scorecard. The hard facts are that QA was essentially shelved during COVID, as...sigh..."all faculty are experts at teaching, regardless of modality".
Question for the peanut gallery: public universities (esp. state schools) need to follow the federal holiday calendar. True or False? I'm asking to learn, in all seriousness.
Hot off the presses! If you need a bigger size to print your stickers let me know!
Oof. Expert speaker/author on learning and AI just referred to AI as "the smartest individual" in the room. Sure, if you lived your life in a walled off vault with a fixed number of books available.

So, a white paper notes "Source: Adapted (sometimes verbatim) from...". Uh, Verbatim implies no word wrangling, my dudes.
Trump's attempt to militarize and federalize D.C. is an incredibly dangerous acceleration of his fascist takeover of the nation
AND

FYI #UPCEASOLAR is in Boston in 2026. #socktweet
"Digital learning" implies there is also analog learning. #upcea
Now we're talking! Research findings that support the benefits of UX standards and templates. More studies to understand why this has an effect.
You're going to suck me into a convo, aren't you? ๐ I've got something in process right now, reading student feedback and coding it.
I'm not sure how you'd design a study to assess LMS usage and cognitive load, but I agree that variance in course navigation contributes to student dissatisfaction.
Shit that matters:
" independent, research-driven initiative" wants us to join and *contribute data* for a mere $3750 USD for three years.
Sir, this is a Wendy's.
I said "AI" and "panopticon" in the same sentence during a vendor-led focus group.
I guess "Trump spews racist shit" is too concise a headline?
Just saying this morning that colleges committed to reducing their carbon footprint need to consider what a giant power suck AI is.
I don't think I had "AI-Driven Testing Apocalypse" on my Ways to Die Bingo" card:
I don't have the actual COLO title, but I am the COLO in all matters online. So it goes :-)
I was at a fund raiser years ago and chatted briefly with Sen Van Hollen. He was sincere and impressive back then too.
