Interesting to think how much marketing and the social construction of ‘desirable’ lifestyles and identities influences this. A lot I think

My experience in promoting sustainability suggests things people are most reluctant to give up are cars, flying and meat/dairy (partic cheese).

There’s also a minor one ‘cooking with gas’. I’d say main blocks to getting off gas are cost and complexity, but there Is some attachment

Ok I don’t know what to believe now. My original thought was it probably wasn’t real but honestly Trump posts such weird stuff it’s hard to know what’s real and what isn‘t

Yep well next step is the whole Holy Trinity I guess 😂😂

I couldn’t believe this was for real! I mean you only have to have a very slight knowledge of Catholic religion to know that in their belief, the Pope answers to God. hmm who does Trump think he is I wonder?

This gives me no pleasure, it makes me very sad, but it seems impossible to do anything about it

I genuinely don’t understand why this is - possibly it’s come about because the party was so attacked by right wing media, but it seems to have turned into a feature of the party that attracts a certain type of person and becomes self-reinforcing

Most thoughtful people I know are quite humble - prepared to admit that they don’t get everything right. But the Greens - as a group and specifically thinking of individuals I know - don’t seem able to do that. Saying ‘sorry I got things wrong and caused harm to you’ seems impossible for them

Some aspects of the Greens are so troubling. In my case, their inability to admit when they’ve made mistakes, and apparent need to be always right - not just to be right about some things but to have a monopoly on being right - is troubling and very hard to understand. Why?

I wonder if it’s time to give ‘move slow, don’t break things’ a go. Just to see how that goes for a while

They should just accept it - no one is ever going to take well done Angus seriously. On the other hand it may be better to have him leading the liberals than someone competent

Vic govt did free public transport but I can’t think of anything the Albanese govt. has done. We’re still begging our local fed Labor Mp (Khalil) to even talk to us about fossil fuel phase out, let alone hearing any initiatives

Does your book look at the gendered aspects of this? Two things that struck me recently - reading Bill Gates’ infamous memo, I got the sense that he doesn’t experience the natural beauty of the world, but only sees it as something to use and control.
The other was some research I read a few years

Yes as a feminist historian I largely agree - what gets me is why so many women don’t get it/ just put up with it.

A large sign saying the following
VIGIL TO END FOSSIL FUELS
What are fossil fuels?
Coal, gas and oil, including petroleum and diesel
Why do we need to end them?
They are the main cause of global warming. If we don’t end them, the world will keep getting hotter.
What does the government need to do?
Make a plan to end fossil fuels in a fair and orderly way.
What does Peter Khalil [local federal MP] need to do?
Put pressure on government, work with community, report back to community.
If you would like to know more, please talk to us.

Escalation in Tactics, as VicPol Raid Nonviolent Zelda8 Protesters: Interview with WACA The Zelda8 are women who staged a feminist protest at Victorian Trades Hall and raided a month later in response, which seems due to the labelling their action as antisemitic.

“police allege the women had changed into Difficult Women t-shirts to hide their identities” ah yes that well publicised and serious charge of wearing a t-shirt to “hide your identity” from people with guns and coercive powers of the state.

Anyone who is honest can see that the world is being run by dangerous fools and that the main reason is #patriarchy because it allows and encourages incompetent men to exercise power and dominance

they are so transparent and yet so many Americans go along with it. I know that the theory of oppression is that most people will go along with it even if they don’t like it, but it’s hard to watch. When will the tipping point be for America?

I wish I’d been able to make them do a test. They were called ‘Danny’ or ‘Sammy’ or something but I think they were AI. When my questions got a bit complicated they started to fall apart and ask me the same questions over and over and say they wanted to send me a code again. It was like panic

Could ‘this address to the nation’ be a zoom?
Could this zoom be a phone call?
Could this phone call be an email?
Could this email be a text?
Could this text be unsent?

Could we in silence retreat to the forest?
Could we, by game trails & forgotten paths, vanish into the trees?
