I’m building a list for an “ecostudy” reading group in RVA that will begin in late Feb/ early March. List already includes The Mushroom at the End of the World; Lively Cities: Reconfiguring Urban Ecology; A Natural History of Empty Lots; The Serviceberry; Plastic Matters. What else should I add?

Once again I am seeing people pick a random day for a general strike and posting that date on Bluesky like a prayer to an absent god. Once again I am begging you, that is not how this works.
A general strike is a fantastic idea. You can’t start with bluesky. You have to start with unions.
Certainly federally funding exists to protect the most vulnerable, but if you read this list, you realize that most of us benefit from federal funding in some way & that even private businesses depend on it to support research and innovation, and the construction of housing and infrastructure.
I’m a landscape designer at a firm that works closely with federal agencies & depends on grant-funded infrastructure projects, some of which might be called “green new deal social engineering” (though I don’t really know what that means). Coastal resiliency? Stormwater management? Rail bridges? 👋🏻
Short-form text-based social mediums (i.e. pithy hot takes) aren’t my strong suit. Livejournal and Xanga were it for me before Instagram came along. Maybe this is my Substack moment?
