I'm mostly convinced that the people who work on Apache Beam don't actually use it. Or, at least, Google's data runner is horribly broken. One of the two.

That browsergate article is hilariously
overstated, especially knowing that LI has has had enough signal on whether you are looking for a new job for like 16 years already.
I want to shoot the @developers.google.com SDK people into the sun. Apparently they've decided to monorepo all of them by language again, thus making it harder to find issues. Well, it was good while it lasted. I'm sure the python spanner client's metrics issues still aren't fixed (racy).
horrifying.
I just have zero energy for ASF stuff. I should probably resign, etc.
terraform cloud down for folks?
I'm reading the paper for F3 and just thinking what a fantastic way to introduce major security holes via your data files.
FWIW, I think something that isn't covered in these sorts of conversations is the impact that higher level languages and tools have had in protecting/hiding the operating system from its users.
www.honeycomb.io/blog/you-had... is interesting, but the HN follow-on discussion is probably better: news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4666... .
Vegas did the proper vetting of the team & realized that if you 3-man Celebrini, you instantly shutdown 50% of the team's scoring. The supporting cast mostly falls apart since they spend so much time puck watching.
Also: why oh why do I need to be logged into the app use the CarPlay integration? Like, I want to look for chargers in the app but if I'm not, then see above.
So dumb.
it occurred to me today that i actively avoid using @electrifyamerica.com because their app is so annoying to use. It continually logs you out and now they've added 2FA via an email with a timeout of 5 minutes. I guess there a lot of ppl getting their cars charged by stealing phones?
I wonder if any of these AI companies are using AI to ask the question of whether anyone wants their service and what the answer is.
Dad has two accounts on LinkedIn and they are going to make this as hard as possible. I totally get needing a death certificate but are they high with requiring this? I guess I'll just go the 'oh look password reset!' route. 😑
He also created multiple accounts on some of them for various reasons. So trying to shut down all of them just means I get to spend twice as much time.
Currently running through my dad’s social media accounts and trying to close them. In one sense, it is kind of neat to see what he was doing (shitposting clearly runs in the family) but the process is painful even with possession of some of the passwords.
I don't understand the point of this change at all.
"This change is intended to reduce confusion, improve reliability, and encourage use of the GitHub platform’s built-in tools for working with pull requests."
That's terrible reasoning.

The year is 2025 and I'm installing some tools to read avro files.
It seems like a bug that I can't export a BigQuery table with a JSON column to Apache Parquet. Why doesn't it just export it as text or binary blob or something instead?

The Jolly Roger flag
Apparently some folks are playing real dumb about skull symbols so let’s play a little game I like to call “Nazi skull or not a Nazi skull”
First up, the Jolly Roger. This is a pirate skull, not a Nazi skull. It means you might get robbed, but prolly not genocided.
With me so far? 1/x
“I’m pleased with the response “. But you just said it wrote some shitty code? Why would you be happy with that?
I hope it is “Upside Down”.
Found an old folder of Sun stuff, including my offer letter. Weirdest thing I kept was probably this piece of paper. I don’t think Sun got their moneys worth on this one. We used Veritas Volume Manager on Sun HA/Sun Cluster.
NFS at 40.

(comic) We don't have the budget
Hooray! That hit he took was brutal.
A bit shout-out to @super-deluxe.bsky.social . Not only is the site informative and has blu-rays no one else does, but can save you money. With shipping+import fees, Amazon FR comes in at $149 with a bit of delay to get here. I can wait.
