and don’t get me started on my thoughts on romulan religion and how it relates to vulcan being renamed to ni’var by that point all because of the line “before our ancestors arrived on vulcan.” that will have to be a topic for my day off when i don’t have this headache

but the vast majority of romulans are just normal level Reserved In A Way That Would Frustrate Anyone But A Vulcan Who Would Simply GET IT and that’s part of what makes late disco era unification plausible

the important bit though is that romulans and vulcans are at a similar level of Refusing To Elaborate On Anything Unless You Really Push and i think the qowat milat were established on the generation ships as “we’re going to be so different actually” and the tal shiar were a conservative backlash

like i know you have issues with face of the enemy, but in that episode we have 1) a military commander talking trash about the tal shiar (the first time they are written btw) for being Like That, and 2) a human who defected talking about how their big thing is Passion, not Secrecy

moreso how until picard, that reading of romulan society has zero textual basis whatsoever, and the levels of headcanon i developed in my big trekkie days to make post-pic romulans work with old school romulans
