i go through the same thing with my writing. i think of fanfic as something that doesn't need to be super perfect and that is mostly indulgent. that's why i love it so much <3 when i write short stories i put more pressure on myself

Jinx shrugs, falling back on her seat. Her blue bangs get in her eyes and she swats them away with her hand, and as she looks up at the high ceiling and its painted clouds and querubines, Slico's chest aches.

/They don't deserve her./

“Hey,” Jinx says, poking his cheek with her finger, “you got so serious all of a sudden. Is your tummy aching again?”

“I'm fine. Let's just watch the show.”

The more Silco takes in his surroundings, the more he seethes at their opulence and hypocrisy. Are these the kind of people who are gonna see Jinx up on that stage in the years to come?

He remembers the renowned doctors who ignored Vander's pleas whenever Silco went too far with his self-hatred, how they were more worried Silco was gonna vomit on their pristine floors than the fact that they had a kid on the verge of death at their doorstep.

He knows these people. He remembers their hushed words and disgusted glances when he and Vander ditched their foster home and roamed the streets with their tattered clothes, sharing a poorly rolled joint just to feel something.

“Jinx.”

“Sorry. Our /mediocre/ theater.”

Everyone is dressed with their best garments, fur that is real fur, leather that is real leather. Not a single hair out of place. Not a single word uttered loud enough for the person on the adjacent seat to hear it.

As they find their seats, though, Silco starts to think it wasn't such a great idea to bring her.

“These seats are so comfy,” she says as she bounces on hers, making the people around them throw judgmental glances at her. “Much better than the ones at our shitty theater.”

Silco rarely takes Jinx to ballet shows. She's too restless, her attention quick to divert if the subject doesn't interest her, but she did want to visit The Palace and, if everything went accordingly, maybe someday she'd have the chance to be on the other side of the stage.
