Examples of breeding for disease resistance in cucurbit crops: identifying sources of resistance, development and testing of breeding lines, and breeding to combine resistance with fruit quality.

Examples of breeding for disease resistance in cucurbit crops: identifying sources of resistance, development and testing of breeding lines, and breeding to combine resistance with fruit quality.

In addition to the specific genomic, breeding, and disease management outputs, the CucCAP projects have had broader impacts including use of the new genomic tools to provide insights into cucurbit biology. https://doi.org/10.21273/JASHS05562-25 #plantscience

Very much assumed that one was not. Had to look myself.

I didn't realize why I was so nervous yesterday until now. I was on the edge of my seat until they got engine separation.

No doubt. Same astronauts. Same. 2 outlooks and neither one works.

Ever wondered how the #cuticle, a hallmark of land plants, was established?

In our latest study, we show that the CUTIN SYNTHASE enzyme family was a key driver of this evolutionary innovation. #plantscience

Oh man... smoked gouda is legit, as is pepper jack... cheddar is so universal though. Picking a "favorite" is very difficult. We definitely use more cheddar than anything else, but I love camembert.

I would say that around that same time I started dabbling more outside of R. I needed python for OpenCV and then I needed JS for gSheets scripting. I still go back to R for making plots for my research. Seems like Python significantly reduced friction by integrating lessons from the R community.

That sounds lovely. Do you have a recipe you follow or is this one of yours? I love using rye malts.

I'll see if I can find something similar nearby first, but if I can't... thanks for the link.

But, like you, what does it mean? You'd think they would lead with this as it puts it into global context. Why don't they?
I'd be more curious about the energy consumption. How much of NYC is equivalent to global ChatGPT usage?

I wonder if it's due to locality. Communities where these datacenters go in suck up local water supply and electric supply. This causes things on a local scale to go super "shitty" for locals.
Being in Ag, I'm not shocked at all to see the area of those fields being equivalent in water consumption.

๐ŸŒฟ Postdoc opportunity in plant evolutionary ecology/genetics!

My lab in the Dept. of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology at the University of Michigan is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to start Fall 2026.

We study plant adaptation, using weeds as model systems.

Hydroponics may have "diluted" the flavor in just the right way. It looks reasonably happy though so I'm surprised you're noticing. Could also be variety, I've had decent luck with Giant of Italy.
