Two down, one to go! The 2nd of 3 best practices we were working on simultaneously went live this morning. This one, called Pathway to Compliance, was all about making it possible for smaller publishers to get on board with @countermetrics.bsky.social

If you're looking for the context behind @countermetrics.bsky.social new AI guidelines, this @researchinfo.bsky.social article is for you!
This has been a massive project for me and for @countermetrics.bsky.social generally. I'm really proud to see our AI usage guidelines go live today!
Though if you are going to create one more libguide, please put in a reminder to check whether it's currentπ
Complaining that the COUNTER guides are out of date when you're using a libguide from 2017, not the website I updated last month, just makes me grumpy.
A quick reminder that the deadline for proposals for the COUNTER conference is this Friday. If you've got an idea you'd like to talk about then do submit it. And if there's someone you want to hear from then do encourage them too. www.countermetrics.org/conference-p...
That's not quite correct any longer! I've be inundated with offers of help on this working group, so there are in fact negative three spaces available.
Was this photo taken when everyone was coming back in from the fire alarm?
Got to love my print-ready CMYK socks!

Just for you
Day two at #uksg2026. If you've not already swung by @countermetrics.bsky.social at booth 46, come and find us to help eat all the chocolates I bought with me!
They're scared of education because it leads to the population asking questions and challenging their "authority".
Oh, and for the inevitable whataboutism. I do not and have never condoned the actions of the state of Israel. (Fin.)
We ALL need to see each other as human beings first and foremost. To quote Davidi-Brown's article again
"If our solidarity depends on whose suffering we are willing to overlook, it is not solidarity at all."
Holding us accountable for Israeli actions is no different than holding our Muslim neighbours accountable for Iranian or Syrian or Afghani actions. [3]
Those attacking Jewish people outside of Israel may believe they are responding to Israeli aggression. They are not. I'm not Israeli. Most of the people I grew up with are not Israeli. Why should we be attacked for the actions of a foreign state? [2]
"Those whose instinct is to support Israel need to challenge the violence being carried out against Palestinian communities in the West Bank. Silence in the face of that reality is not neutrality; it is complicity. Those who align themselves with the Palestinian cause must confront the growing number of attacks on Jewish people, communities and property in London, across Europe and in North America. Minimising or ignoring that threat does not advance justice; it undermines it."
Well-written piece in @theguardian.com today from David Davidi-Brown, responding to the antisemitic attack in London last night which destroyed four ambulances.

Today's the very last day to register for the UKSG 49th annual conference. Better get your skates on!

Talk about context switching!
This morning I drafted @countermetrics.bsky.social best practice on #AI usage reporting.
At lunch I moved 800kg of garden stepping stones from the front yard, through the house, down the stairs, and into my garden.
Next: #OA workflows with @nisoinfo.bsky.social.

Chaos monkey vibes as envisioned by AI, courtsey of my oldest friend.
Does the world need another me? I'd say probably not the chaos monkey vibes, but we definitely could use more people who care about @uksg.bsky.social and want to help us succeed. If that's you, consider standing as a trustee!
Continuing my tour through the conference themes at @uksg.bsky.social 2026, we have open educational resources and pedagogy. I'm particularly interested in the OER and open books session!

Inspired by Jeff Lang on @scholarlykitchen.bsky.social , I finally wrote out my thoughts about why #FAIR isn't fair unless it includes Preservation.

I'm not sold on the idea of AI tools saving me time. Gemini just gave me an 'executive summary' that was longer than the original report!
To be fair, I was looking at the registration for regular Charleston when I wrote the bit about reg. Still - the total bill for me to get to Charleston Asia was significantly more than double what I'd spend on UKSG
1. How did you manage that? Charleston Asia cost an absolute fortune for registration, never mind hotel and flights.
2. Surely the point of conferences is learning from each other?I've yet to find another conference that delivers as much value in terms of sessions as UKSG.
Yesterday's @uksg.bsky.social Conference theme of the day was AI and misinformation, so today has to be research integrity and trust. I'm looking forward to the session about community building and trust with @orcid.org and @jisc.bsky.social!

Any 2026 conference worth its salt needs to showcase AI! @uksg.bsky.social has a whole theme on AI, misinformation & emerging technologies.

ps Whatever's keeping CISOs and librarians up at night, may I suggest valerian tea as an antidote?
