Chuckie Egg on the BBC was my life at age 6 and the sound when jumping is amongst my favourite all time game sounds. What a treat to read this!
Posts by Keith Stuart
Me neither! It was actually quite emotional talking to him as Chuckie Egg was so instrumental in my gaming obsession!
Hi I wrote about the making of classic platformerChuckie Egg and talked to its creator Nigel Alderton. Please give it a read as I want to show there’s an audience for this gaming history stuff 🙏

I feel like my human rights have been breached
Ahead of my NYU talk on the history/future of games journalism, I want to test a theory about how small/big games media is:
Please share links to where you get games reporting/criticism.
They can be a site, blog, YouTuber, streamer, social handle, podcast. They must be places/people you trust.
Are games art?
Also, please I beg you, literally ANY angle will be more interesting than “it’s not just teenage boys in their bedrooms anymore!”
TV news people: when covering the London Games Festival this month, maybe concentrate on the profound cultural impact of the medium rather than leading FOR THE BILLIONTH TIME on how much money they make. Thanks byeeeeee
Hi, have you ever played Wrecking Crew, Super Mario Bros Special or Dr Mario 64? Why not come and read about them as well as many other Mario oddities?!

The flyer for the London Games Festival: an illustration of a kind-of weird mecha made of various London landmarks, looming over the London skyline while some humans frolic, blue sky behind, title reading "LONDON GAMES FESTIVAL 13 April - 19 April 2026"
Hello! Are you someone in London who's interested in weird playful experiments and commercially implausible games? I've written up some of the stuff happening as part of this year's London Games Festival that I think you should check out

Hiiiii, I wrote about Marathon for GamesRadar - specifically about how its demanding difficulty level has released me from the curse of inventory anxiety. No point in hoarding good guns when you’re gonna get killed anyway 👍

Hi I wrote this week’s Pushing Buttons newsletter about Sci-fi games that seek to capture the existential fear and vulnerability of cosmic travel. Enjoy, space cadets! 🚀🪐

This massive space arse will devour us all!
They’re still going!
Newspaper story about Apple’s stock market debut
I bought an old copy of the Guardian - dated 15 Dec 1980 - in a charity shop and found this story about Apple’s stock market debut! It was valued at $65m… I think it’s worth a punt

Yes this definitely counts! Like Elite, it allows a sort of self-imposed solitude if you avoid dog fights, etc. just drifting alone through space…

Hello, can I ask: what are you favourite games that capture the solitude, beauty and existential dread of space? This is for something I’m writing
40 years ago, ZZAP! invited some of the best programmers of the day (Archer Maclean, Jeff Minter, Chris Butler, Tony Crowther, Andrew Braybrook) to play one another in contest using their own games (plus one chosen by the ZZAP team). Minter won, with Braybrook coming a close 2nd.
Hi I wrote about Lush’s sweeeeet range of Super Mario Galaxy products. Come on, you’ve got nothing better to do today

Now that the new Super Mario Bros movie is out, come and read about the making of the original. I promise you it’s a hell of a ride!

Hi I went to the V&A player/performer event on Friday night and it was extremely fun

If we did it as a drinking game this story would have killed us
Lovely to see you too! Thank you for the brilliant comic! Xx
Oh my god, the BBC story is worse. It ticks every box on the fatuous mainstream games coverage list:
Present lazy stereotype of gamers ✅
Shock at global games revenue ✅
Realisation that adults play games ✅
Trite ending of newfound respect ✅

Look, I don’t want to be horrible, it’s great that ITV News is reporting from Dreamhack BUT “gaming has graduated from armchairs to arenas”?! “Dreamhack is evidence we’ve moved on from an arcade era”?! arcade era?!! What year of Dreamhack were they attending?!
