We tried the first episode yesterday, but we all felt a bit meh. I think I’m going to put on Over the Garden Wall tonight. I don’t think it’s necessarily scarier than GF or Mystery Inc.

They’re both adorable. That’s a shame, but you can take it as an excuse to rewatch it at home!

The Triumph of Whimsy
On the 4th of July 1862, Lewis Carroll first told the story of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland on a boat trip that departed from near the aptly named Folly Bridge in Oxford. Over a century later, the heroines of Jacques Rivette's Céline and Julie Go Boating (1974) embark on a journey that culminates with another boat trip.

Tomorrow at London’s Cinema Museum! Cinema Year Zero and Arta Barzanji bring you a screening of the whimsical CÉLINE AND JULIE GO BOATING (Jacques Rivette, 1974), with programme notes by me. Get your tickets here:

Thank you so much! No other film can give you British middle-class zombie bikers riding through the mist in a stone circle and practising toad magic.

Apparently Hirsch tried to impersonate his raspy voice when he voiced Bill, since he couldn’t have the real thing.

I love Ghosts, but my son isn’t really into live action stuff yet. I’ve heard of Eerie Indiana. Maybe one for the future!

Just read that they wanted Lynch to voice Bill Cipher, which would have been flawless.

We’ve just finished the last episode and I’m really going to miss them. Phenomenal, just pure, unadulterated joy.

Thanks for all your suggestions! In the end I’m making mango and lime frozen yogurt. Minimal prep and fits in well.

I need to make a light pudding for an informal dinner party I’m hosting tomorrow (I’m cooking orzo in a tomato and roasted pepper sauce with halloumi, pomegranate seeds and mint + baba ganoush, hummus and garlic and coriander flatbreads). Any recommendations?

Had a nice day out at High Wycombe, then met my beloved @kjsoar.bsky.social. We forgot to take pictures, but here’s a moving selfie of me at the Hellfire Caves, my natural habitat.

I know of it, but have never seen it (I’ve always avoided Catholic horror, convent school girl issues)

Funnily enough, I wrote about Malpertuis a few months back. There are more similarities—I mentioned Malpertuis in my original draft, but had to cut it out because of word limit.
