Our system in the US is pretty unique in how much power it gives to small rural communities relative to their share of the population. And unfortunately, these populations tend to be less educated. So our leadership tends to be backwards relative to the rest of the civilized world.

He had a very reasonable position if you read beyond the headline. IP wasn’t the bottleneck on vaccine production, manufacturing capacity and know-how was. If we gave it away, pharmaceutical companies would be disincentivized from developing these vaccines so quickly next time we have a pandemic.

We live in a digital autocracy. Social media controls what these people see and therefore what they think. And social media owners went far right. Democracy is not safe until social media is regulated. We need simple open source algorithms which can be understood by researchers.

We need to increase state capacity. Rather than making contracts with private developers to build housing, states should make an agency that directly employs architects, land surveyors, and construction workers. Streamline environmental permits. Ignore NIMBYs.

Where is this coming from? Abundance is not about corporate interests. It’s about getting the stuff democrats actually want, like housing, better science funding, and mass transit.
