Will it be national news? Will it cause performative outrage? Will he be censured?

Nope. Forgotten by tomorrow.

I much prefer being around people who try to improve things, even if they ultimately aren't successful, rather than folks who assume nothing will ever change.

Not the most important thing here, but a more common term for someone coming to the United States with nothing and becoming a millionaire with an influential job is "The American Dream."

Trump pulled the US out of the World Health Organisation yesterday.

In response California has become the first state to join the WHO’s Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network.

If this is the start of a pattern Americans will only be safe in Blue states.

THREAD: I'll fact-check all the viral misinformation about the US military operation in Venezuela in this thread

This image, purporting to show the US military arresting Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, is AI-generated.

According to Google's SynthID detector, it was created using Google AI.

Someone on Twitter replies to me: "meh. buy american or stfu."

Two hours later, in a separate thread, the write: "$30 for a single button-up is ridiculous unless it is decent quality silk."

This two-parter below is exactly why it's hard to make clothes in the United States.

Let's look at how much it costs to produce a button-up shirt in the US. 🧵

I also have advice. Everybody loves reading advice on the computer, so I'll share it: the best thing you can do right now is log off as hard as you can. Go outside, talk to people in real life where it's actually kind of rude to talk about the news, try to actually see the friends you usually just text message. Go for a long drive and turn the phone off while you do it. Get back into your hobbies or pick one and learn it for a while. Watch one of those studio movies that reviews called "wildly miscalculated" and you haven't seen since high school. Play an album you like but find embarrassing. Go to free community events even if they sound stupid. If you take the freeway, try the surface streets. Go to a bad diner and just order some bad coffee because even bad coffee is good coffee.
You can't help anybody when you're exhausted and keep posting one million college-educated rewordings of "I would love to be dead right now" on the computer. Walk away from the thing and try out some of those normal things you hear about and if you get bored that's wonderful because we're not supposed to get bored anymore. It turns out boredom is the Cadillac of feelings.

Exploitation of resources was built into the American system decades, even centuries, before any of us could have prevented them. society made this choice for us. The siren song of nihilism can feel so irresistible at this moment. If there is no ethical consumption under capitalism, and capitalism is what shaped the society we were born into, then there’s nothing any of us can do, right? Wrong. Also, fuck you.

Last sentence might have been directed at a certain person I interacted with who, turns out, isn’t a nihilist. They’re just a coward.
