Exactly @dsc250.bsky.social . States can't prevent medical personnel from coercion in the abortion and conversion therapy context, despite (as Justice Jackson highlights in the first sentence of her dissent) that medical practice has always been subject to the police power of states.
Post-Chiles, Dobbs, and Skrmetti, states can deprive people of reproductive autonomy and youth of gender-affirming care, while simultaneously allowing medical and non-medical actors use falsehoods to deprive people of abortion or discourage them from living as themselves.
SCOTUS upheld viewpoint-based restrictions about abortion in Planned Parenthood v. Casey, but today says that licensing restrictions regarding conversion therapy are impermissibly viewpoint-based. It's almost as though SCOTUS thinks only certain views about gender & sexuality deserve protection...
Congratulations @melissastewart.bsky.social !!
So happy for Bethune, Sanchez, Ratcliffe...and so sad for us!

This might be the first time that D.C.’s CFO has been directly protested. Someone sent me a photo of a @freedcproject.bsky.social flyer posted outside his office in the Wilson Building today.
"I thought the joke was distasteful & unfortunate, & I think the way women are represented, it's a great teaching point to really shine light on how women should be championed for their amazing feats. Now I have to sit in front of you and explain someone else's behavior? It's not my responsibility."
Hilary Knight got the question re: that phone call and the laughter at the Torrent presser. Her answer:
For more on pronatalism in tort law and how plaintiff-side litigators might still bring deprivation of abortion claims in this hostile landscape, my draft piece, Selective Pronatalism in Tort Law, is here. Feedback always welcome! papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers....
The report provides an alarming preview of conservative priorities for reproductive oppression in the coming years. Read it here: www.heritage.org/sites/defaul...
In the midst of a chaotic start to 2026, I lost sight of this pronatalist Heritage Foundation report, but it is important to read. It focuses on eliminating no-fault divorce, advocates for "traditional" (i.e. non-LGBTQ+) families, and open dismisses IVF/other assisted reproductive technology
This is incredible and so well deserved, Congratulations Laura!!
Sharing my draft article Selective Pronatalism in Tort Law, re: harms impeding abortion & pregnancy prevention in tort. Huge thank you to @jrabrams.bsky.social , @dsc250.bsky.social , and so many others for generous feedback, and additional feedback always welcome!

Sharing this largely for the low-barrier shelter and hypothermia shelter information!
We sent a letter to the National Women’s Soccer League expressing serious concern about their decision to reject the Washington Spirit’s contract agreement with Trinity Rodman.
Hi! I am a member and clicked the link but I don't see the 51st in the "Swag Shop"--how can I order? thank you!
As a lawyer and a women's soccer fan (and a huge Washington Spirit and Trinity Rodman fan!), I am so grateful for @meghannburke.bsky.social and her leadership on this clear contract and labor issue. The league is wrong.
Thank you!!
@ellabrockway.bsky.social you think it's a safe bet for Saturday even though it also says TBA at the top, at least when I click on it?

About 1 in 8 Americans receive SNAP--including 141,000 D.C. residents--and while food banks are very important, they cannot fill the enormous need starting November 1. Allowing people to go hungry is unacceptable. USDA could use its $5 billion contingency fund to continue to fund SNAP, & they must
I use to work in anti-hunger policy. These SNAP cuts are incredibly grim, and will dramatically increase hunger nationwide if states are not able to make up the difference. This is also deeply inefficient--$1 in SNAP generates $1.50 in economic activity.

You are so kind @jrabrams.bsky.social , and thank you for the incredibly helpful feedback!!
"For example, if a student asserts that two men cannot get married, the guidance document encouraged teachers to respond by saying: 'When people are adults they can
get married. Two men who love each other can decide they
want to get married.'" But that is just...an accurate explanation of the law.
The majority opinion in Mahmoud uses this example to allege that the school board's curriculum burdens free exercise:
If the Supreme Court thinks universal injunctions are unconstitutional, to wait until *now* to say that, in this of all cases, with this of all presidents, is a devastating indictment of both its impartiality and its prudence.
Today's Skrmetti opinion is devastating to transgender children and families who live in states with cruel laws barring gender affirming care. But it is very important to recognize this opinion does not give private entities, legislatures, or the President carte blanche to discriminate! 1/x
