Thank you so much for posting this. I'm Canadian and ashamed to say I don't remember hearing about her before. I won't forget her now.

Big 5 aren't really protected either, unless the article means big name authors. My last 3 books weren't carried in BN stores. You can imagine what that did for sales. And now I'm no longer with that publisher, despite the books winning awards. BN is really disappointing on so many levels.

You're a true patriot, sir. ;-)

Continuing my quest to read more excellent horror, I read 'Manhunt' by Gretchen Felker-Martin over the weekend. It beat me up and then made me laugh. Brutal, violent and oh-so beautiful. I'm going to be thinking of this one for a long time. As I should.

My first thriller IT TAKES ONE (written as Kate Kessler) is on sale in ebook format via Amazon, BN, Google, Apple and Kobo. I like it. You might too. :-)

White dude writes a book with an Asian character and puts the word 'yellow' in the title, along with an Asian woman on the cover. Did he not realize that just might turn people off?

I was wondering if $200B is the amount that the US holds of Canadian debt. Never mind that Canada holds over $350B of US debt, but he can still claim that the US is 'carrying' Canada.

As a Bluenoser, I have to vote for the cannon. I love the lobster and have seen it in person, but the cannon represents the Halifax Explosion and all of those who lost their lives or loved ones.

Miss Piggy. Followed by either Gonzo or Pepe.

I also like singing along to 'The Last Night.'

I used to write historical romance and I wish I was as good as Courtney. She's honestly one of the best in the business.

Oh, I'd love to go on a ghost tour with you! That sounds fabulous.

Nah, you're good. I'd buy smokes from you. ;-)

You're right. Please don't think I'm making light of your concerns, because they're legit. I'm coming from all of this as someone who's seen the industry on the verge of collapse several times over the past 25 years. Somehow it managed to hang on, but that doesn't mean it always will.

I think this is further proof that publishing execs still don't know what readers want.

Canadian living in the US -- we pay to have insurance. We pay a set fee for every care visit (price varies if it's GP or specialist, etc). Mostly things are partially covered, if they're in your network. You have to max out your deductible and out of pocket expenses before everything is covered.

I was so there for the Steampunk. Still sad that my romances in the genre didn't sell all that great. I think they're some of my best work. But yeah, I loved me a corset and a tiny top hat.

Nova Scotian here and I'm gonna be picky because you're talking secret passwords. I'm sorry, but it's 'was' not 'were.' Please don't hate me. lol.

LOL. It's for a screenplay I want to write. Female-centric horror.

I grew up so poor my mother often had to pick between food and clothes and I've never stolen/pirated a book. We got them from the book-mobile that only came around once a month. Don't use poor as an excuse for piracy, it's an insult to poor people.
