Had a good cry while folding some laundry, now early bedtime.

Idk man. I think the truth is that I am fucked up. Always the odd one out with friends. Coworkers. Even my own family. And everybody fucking leaves. The only people who I really have are in this house and that’s it.

Oh fun. Now my sister wants to text about the way *I* am treating our mom.

I think after she leaves it will be very cathartic to me to go over there and rip a bunch of plants straight out of the ground.

The thing I am hung up about is that it all happened behind my back and she doesn’t even seem to have considered splitting her time. My sis got a house with a basement apartment for her. I own her house here. If she gave a fuck about my family, she could split her time.

It's so personal! I like to pack very light-- because when wrangling stuff for the rest of my family, I want all my stuff to fit comfortably on my back. But even people within my own family have different packing styles and needs.

It's possible I told my mother I would never be setting foot in the state of Oregon but it's possible that wasn't true. Thanks friend.

I swear to God PepperAnne intuited that the conversation my mom and I had was not a good one and she is now following me around and being super affectionate.

I know it's Bluesky brain of me but guess what: it's weird to make things like getting to the airport on time or not, or checking a bag or not, a major part of your personality or assign morality to it. My kid has to check a bag because she can't fit all the medical supplies she needs in a carry-on.

This is why you keep your makeup and meds in your personal item and knock on wood I have never not had my bags make it.

These days there never seems to be enough overhead bin space, and if they're gonna make me gate check it anyway, why not just check it and not have to deal with schlepping my bag through security/the airport?

Mom is like "I just don't want you to cut me out of your life the way you do your sister." And like the sister thing: this cuts both ways. You are choosing to leave. You chose it and announced it and it was a done deal even though it affects me emotionally and financially (I own her house).

It's hard not to feel like the problem is me when my dad and stepmom have also always favored her and also the kid they adopted together, and my mom seems to blame me that we are not closer because she never invited us over to her house and always waited for me to invite her here.

The story is that she was here for me when my kids were little and now they're not, and my sister's kids are little and they still need her so that's why she's going. (My sister was here in Denver this whole time, too, so she has been here with us both since 2020.)

I am sure that my anger is also providing cover for how deeply hurtful all of this is, but mom left crying. I told her, "I'm sorry, I'm just having trouble being anything but furious."

"I'm not choosing your sister over you" she says as she actively chooses to be closer to my sister than to me.

It really truly is. She also seemed shocked that I plan to sell the house we bought for her (she pays rent that is equal to the mortgage) and it will likely be torn down because no one wants a 900 sq foot house. And her garden will be destroyed.

My kids' classmates knew my niece was having health issues (that one of my kids has also dealt with!) before I did-- no one ever actually told me. And J is a fucking pediatrician! My mom is like "I am sorry you have such animosity toward your sister." It's not animosity. It's indifference.

I don't think my sister and I will have any relationship at all after this. As it is, her neighbor/besties knew about all of this before I did. Because THEY ARE MOVING TOO. And I hear about my nieces/nephew via my kids who get it from friends at school who are in a class my sister teaches.

Have mostly been avoiding my mom since I found out she has chosen my sister over me and is moving with my sister to Oregon but she just popped by and it wasn't the best conversation, but I guess at least she knows how furious I am that everyone made this plan behind my back.

This phrase in our family is now used whenever you need to brag (and solicit praise) from another family member about something you already did: "If I put away all the reusable grocery bags, I would be the champion. I already did! So I'm the champion!"

We literally have a memorable and often quoted moment from a spaghetti dinner with our then-toddlers. "If I ate all my spaghetti, I would be the champion. I already did! So I'm the champion!" No weird recording device needed even 12 years later. This is so weird and unnecessary.
