Everything With Trump’s Signature, Name and Likeness: Currency, Buildings and More (Gift Article) Since the start of his second term, there have been more than a dozen instances of his name, image or signature emblazoned on a variety of American initiatives and institutions.

Like the insane and degenerate Roman emperor Commodus, Trump has an obsession with placing his name on everything. NYT catalogues his efforts here. After Commodus was murdered by his own security detail, Rome imposed a lex damnatio memoriæ requiring his name be excised wherever it appeared.

I find he’s one of the few authors I can re-read repeatedly and always find new things. Thanks for the reference - I’ll give it a read.

That’s an interesting one. A lot the themes resonate so closely with what’s going on now. Thanks!

Thanks. He really was thinking these issues out far in advance in a fictional context.

LOL - that quote from Vini Reilly is hilarious - and completely unsurprising.

That’s a good point. A certain amount of “epistemic discipline” (ie distinguishing between good and bad sources, being precise and restrained in your inferences, critical thinking etc) might help. But that stance becomes more and more difficult as information environment ..🧵

Yes, but how many people are into Durutti Column? I am, but in my entire life I’ve only been able to find one other fan, and since it was on social media, the degree of their fandom is essentially unverifiable.

The price of letting others control our energy As Trump wages economic war to break Canada, let’s go for Canadian energy security and independence. Strategic petroleum reserves must be part of it. The Iran war shows how risky reliance on oil is. A...

Canada is the only major energy producer without a strategic petroleum reserve. That leaves us exposed to global shocks because we’ve structured our system around foreign control rather than energy security and independence, argues Gordon Laxer.

“Part of the job of jazz musicians is to reflect their time and place. The title track is a long suite of Americana with crowd noise and overdubbing. Charles Ives in 1980? In some ways it is dated, but so are John Hughes movies.” Via @ethaniversonpiano.bsky.social
