We all experience and process emotions differently. The personal nature of emotion and how it can be processed in positive or toxic ways (without our control unless we develop those skills) make them unreliable for positive societal change because unregulated they are easily exploited by the cruel.

Shame doesn’t build integrity or promote empathy. When shame and guilt are the primary tools of enforcing morality cruelty becomes baked into the system. Education, community, harm reduction through consequences build a firm foundation for a healthy society. Shame is a foundation of glass and sand.

Look into their coverage of trans stuff for the past decade or more. This is more than opportunist. They have been pushing far right talking points through smug intellectuals opinion pieces for a long time now.

Talk of reform is often in defense of a refusal to acknowledge the reality that systems that are working as intended.

The only bulwark democracy has is democracy itself. Demand education, media literacy, propaganda literacy, and equity for your people. Limit campaign length and regulate donations so they represent your people and not wealthy donor. Demand integrity in your politicians. Learn from our downfall.

Harris lost for many reasons but yes one of them was her failure to address those terrible anti-trans ads in way that inspired voters. The Democratic tendency to means test everything is what makes them look weak. If they won’t counter the rhetoric the other side is spouting they will keep losing.

Plenty of kids will hide that they’re trans or even evening questioning the gender from their parents out of shame, fear of rejection, or fear for their safety. When abusive bigoted parents find out their kids are trans the results can be deadl.

I don’t disagree though the fact they are barely on this map at all is somehow more insulting and satisfying as an Eagles fan.

Ignoring the rights framing of Trans folk and our struggles always comes with the extra cost of making it harder to defend other vulnerable groups when similar framing is used against them. Throwing us under the bus instead of having our backs is not only bad morally but tactically as well.
