Doing a book reading at Exclusive books at V&A Waterfront this morning so of course I have woken up to a mosquito bite on my eyelid . Writers are supposed to look ummm , interesting right?

It can’t possibly be him as this one is patterned but he must be a very close relative, probably made at the same time from the same pattern. He has had many repairs & stitches & lots of love. And now he’s all scrubbed up clean again & will be coming back to the UK for my granddaughter to love
I immediately took a photo and sent to my mum who said “Pinky Pig “ !!! As soon as I held him I could remember the feel of his overstuffed body and the one tiny patch of fur that I hadn’t rubbed off . It’s so visceral
Reassured me he had only gone travelling . And today I was in a charity shop here in Cape Town and felt a strong pull to go to the far end of the shop and look up . And there on a shelf, too high for a child to see, look what I found!!
Today the universe reconnected in a tiny way. When I was born my godmother gifted me a small plump sheepskin pig from South Africa where she still lives. Pinky pig was lost at sea on an overnight ferry to France when I was 7 or 8 & it was, as you’d expect, heartbreaking. But my mum 1/2
