The virgin 'What if Superman... BUT EVIL' VS. The Chad 'Character born to be evil who instead chose to be good'.

The 'What if Superman... BUT EVIL!' trope took off in the last decade at least in-part because media execs want the public to think negatively of the kind, working class hero who punches billionaires.
Some of the younger generations aren't even old enough to have 'nostalgia' for this tech. Anyone graduating high school this year would have been a toddler by the time MP3s died out and itunes took off.
They just understandably want to actually own things.
Yo, I didn't know it was your birthday. Happy Birthday!
That quote was such nonsense. The same factor it used to omit Final Fantasy (a linear story) from being an RPG would also omit Ultima, Diablo, & tons of foundational RPGs made in the west. It's only when the RPG is made in Japan when peeps seem to get a stick up their ass over what's 'really' an RPG
I remember CSB Pat saying Bioware's most popular characters were anime characters. I don't think that's entirely true. Garrus feels more like Dirty Harry (not that 'disgruntled vigilante' is nowhere in anime).
But others like Tali, Leliana, and Fenris I 100% see.
The Norman Rockwell namedrop is funny because he made plenty of paintings showing the nasty, hateful side of the 50s/60s.
Alt-right douchebags just ignore those paintings and cherrypick the idealic ones. Like they do anything else that doesn't match their rose-tinted view of the 50s.
What? No More Heroes is the most heart-on-its-sleeve love letter to video games possible. At worst it's an affectionate parody of certain tropes.
If there's any contempt expressed in the series, it's in the form of Suda's undying hatred for EA and John Riccitello in NMH3 and TSA.
It's this way more often than the former.
I cannot count the amount of media people call deconstructions that just... does what happens in their genre.
I loathe binge culture, but Jojo's batch releases are somehow worse. At least with a season drop you get everything in one go.
Weekly releases are a special communal snippet in time that only happen once, and I hate that we'll probably never see Jojo Fridays return.
wouldn't it be funny if EVERYONE blocked this Attie AI account @ bsky.app/profile/atti... before they could do anything with it
'Liberals are against every war, except for the one that's currently happening.'
'And they're against every genocide, except for the one going on right now.'
'And they support every civil rights movement, except for the newest one.'
'And they are for progressive policies, except for-'
Segata Sanshiro wins.
This is a fancy way of saying I don't think Zero Parades will be good.
An IRL friend aptly said that Disco Elysium is like the Boss' will across the Metal Gear series.
Everyone who was connected to her completely misinterprets it, and the person closest to actually carrying on her will is someone she never even met (Solid Snake and/or the Citizen Sleeper devs).
It's okay. Sometimes a DnD party needs a human fighter who wields a longsword.
The state of the internet is a bunch of people who are on record as having raped children telling you that artistic expression is immoral.
So many modern problems would be solved if there were more old school internet forums for people to do niche, cringy roleplaying on.
The White House shitter account posted a pro-iran war propaganda video that included clips of the yugioh anime, so I figure this is a good time to remind everyone that Kazuki Takahashi was staunchly anti-war and he died a hero, unlike any american in Iran right now.
RE9 feels like what RE6 should have been. A game that balances the survival horror and action elements scattered across the series by dividing it among different characters.
Ember is an annoying atheist redditor in the form of an emotionally stunted elf girl (and she's wonderful).
How my friends who don't play fighting games see me VS. How my friends who do play fighting games see me.
The author in this case isn't even saying anything extreme in terms of the story's message. She's just saying who the two main characters are.
If every Zelda game was meant to be self-contained, or a reinterpretation of ideas, its creators would have said as much so people would shut up. Its creators have no doubt changed their minds on things and left some ideas unexplored, but no shit. That happens when a series is decades old.
Zelda's continuity is a thing its creators thought about going back to the 80s and early 90s. The timeline in Hyrule Historia wasn't a concession to appease fans or validate fan theories. The story to multiple Zelda games, including its first sequel, would not make sense unless they were connected.
'Zelda wasn't meant to have continuity, *oh-except for all these games with clear continuity between them, with stories that wouldn't make sense unless they were direct sequels*' is pretty big fucking asterisk.
The claim that Zelda was never supposed to have a timeline, and that each game is the same remixed story, is provably false. It doesn't make a shred of sense, even as far back as Zelda I to Zelda II, never mind OOT to MM, WW to Phantom Hourglass, ETC.
I saw the typical whining and snark about Zelda's timeline during its 40th anniversary, and I am once again wondering if these people have ever seriously looked at the long-form continuity of any long-running series ever in their life.
